First off all our room came with 3 single beds, not what we were advised we would get with our tour. The toilet leaked all over the floor, the room was freezing and internet basically non existent. They made breakfast for us the following morning for our Horton plains excursion, but the food was terrible obviously made the night before (very basic). Also we were given a sealed bottle of water, the lid was yellow & smelt of urine, yuk!!!!! The next day we requested a double bed, no hot water, room freezing again, requested another blanket. Curtains see through from bathroom.
Breakfast in resteraunt the following morning was ok, and the staff member very attentive and should we working in a better hotel.
The entire hotel needs an upgrade and obviously new management.

Room Tip: Dont book this hotel.

It has a great feel of living in a colonial style 150 year old building, but needs a lot of maintenance and improvements in service, lighting and food. The doors and windows don't shut completely so you get very cold at night, and the Restaurant is repulsive, the staff seem to just hang around and talk loudly in the middle of the night right next to your door. Would I visit again, probably not. But if they revamp the restaurant, it would make a great place to dine whilst enjoy the colonial Decor.

We were delighted with this gorgeous dark wood colonial building on first sight. A grand building of old with the potential to be a great hotel, which it currently isnt. To echo other comments. It is very cold here. We had a terrible sleep the first night tho better the second night after requesting extra blankets. The room itself was lovely but the bathroom was dire. On request our wet, dirty towels were changed for clean ones tho these really were long past needed to be binned and replaced. The water only got cool not hot, the shower curtain was very mouldy and the floor got soaked and remained soaked throughout our two nights. No room service undertaken. We found the dining room staff and the chef to be lovely and friendly.

Old colonial hotel with great character however large ceilinged rooms and cool climate make for a chilly stay.
Had to "pester" management for towels.
Excellent lounge area where we were able to try out our Carrom skills (Sri Lankan billiard type game with draughts) whilst eating good snacks and drinking arrack.
Bathroom could have been cleaner.
Basic breakfast included.
We did not book in advance and perhaps that is why the price seemed a little high.
Wifi only weak connection in the lounge area.

The hotel is a joke. Upon arrival we were shown our room - it was clear that there was a huge damp problem with the walls saturated and a musty aroma in the air. When we asked whether another room was available we were told all other rooms were taken, this despite numerous keys being left in the door at 18:30, meaning a number were not booked. We said that we were going to look for another hotel but were then told another room had become free.

The room was better however the toilet had a huge leaking pipe and the wall between rooms a locked door was present. The hotel provides wifi but not in any rooms and so we went to the lounge but we told that we could not use the code as the staff were using the lounge that evening and would not allow guests to use this area.

The hotel was very noisy with staff walking up and down the corridors all night shouting to themselves, with one in particular making a constant snorting sound well in to the early hours.

As we were climbing worlds end the next day we asked for a packed breakfast. When leaving the hotel at 05:30 we were given the meals as promised. the quality of the processed cheese sandwich, a boiled egg and the small banana provided pretty much summed up our experience.

Overall a very disappointing time and the only thing I would say to people reading lonely planet reviews or attempting to book this hotel is stay away at all costs!

It was the worst Hotel i ever stayed, To call it a hotel is a shame. The Manager was drunk, Found cockroaches and bed bugs in the room and bedding, Left the hotel midnight,Family was very disturbed but nearby Alpine hotel staff very gently accomodated and gave a Duplex room at very reasonable charge! Will only say never go to Grosveners but choose Alpine instead.

Cold, miserable room, no bed site lamps, poor shower. Why the hotel is charging guests to keep the room warm? The restaurant was also cold, the Sri Lankan dinner was reasnable but very basic breakfast. In colonial times the hotel was special but now is damp that needs plenty of improvement.
