We were forced to stay here as part of a package we were scammed into at Colombo Fort Railway station (please see my other post about this). On arrival at 3pm, bearing in mind we booked the tour days ago so they knew we were coming and when, we were told to sit in the lounge as the room wasn't ready. We had to sit here for about an hour with no offer of refreshment. We found a 'bar' which only offered warm Coca Cola. We ordered a tea and were expecting lovely local tea but were given Liptons.

No towels in the room and when requested came damp. As room (which was admittedly quite nice as was the building as a whole) was cold we asked for blankets which came wet!! Requested another one which came with holes.

We wanted to go out for dinner. The rain was hammering down so we asked the owner to call us a tuk tuk but he said repeatedly that we had to walk 100 metres down the road in the rain to the tuk tuk stand. As we hurried past the Alpine next door, an ordered tuk tuk sailed past (perhaps stay there!)

Breakfast was unimaginative. The owner wanted to charge us 1500 rupees to check out late.

Do not stay here.

The rooms were beautiful and old from a time long ago. The hotel felt empty but had the charm. We enjoyed heading to town for good food and walking around. This is a one night stay hotel. You get a nice rest but the rooms are so big you never feel settled in.
Our rooms were clean and the staff was eager to help us with our bags and checking in. We enjoyed a nice breakfast alone in a beautiful breakfast nook. Enjoyed the charm of this place after a few harried days on the road.

So yes this is old colonial style with very large rooms and a dresser etc. and not as bad as some reviews say, at least in my experience. However, they could buy new blankets... sheets were clean and neat...an average hotel.no AC..Regarding Wi-Fi I have come to the conclusion that except in big cities like Colombo or Kandy, no matter what the hotel says, Wi-Fi is non-functional...I left very early and they packed the following for me: 2 bananas, three slices of pineapple, a boiled egg, and four slices of egg and cheese sandwich.

A colonial style hotel with average services. Great location close to the lake and city centre. No air conditioning. Breakfast ordinary, staff friendly and helpful. Over priced during holiday season. Limited parking places.
