Whenever I visit my friends in Madison I ask that we go to Monty’s. They serve breakfast all day and I am impressed with their zucchini pancakes. They are excellent n served with an apple compote that is a perfect add on. This is a very busy place and definitely worth the wait.

I love the atmosphere of this place and used to love coming here for breakfast or lunch.Sorry to say it has been disappointing the last 3 times I have been there. Cajun chicken was on a very “bready” bun, a small piece of dry chicken with flavorless chipotle mayo. Crispy but dry potatoes. Many items dry and flavorless. My partners food much the same......hope it can return to the yummy diner of yore

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience. I am sorry to hear we have missed the mark the last few times you have been in! We do pride ourselves on serving great food and if our reviews in total are an indication there are still many times we are getting it right.

It is so unfortunate that we haven't been able to do the same when you have been in and it highlights the ongoing work we are doing to battle staffing shortages and the resulting consistency issues we still face having more new people on at a time than in years past.

Please don't take this explanation as an excuse, we just want you to know that quality and consistency matter to us very much and we are working towards improving both every day. The information you have shared is extremely valuable, and helps us continue to focus our attention where needed. As of Monday we will be welcoming a new Chef on staff who is excited to start making an impact! We would love it if you would come back for your next visit on us to let us know how we are doing!

If you would please provide your best mailing address to ntarpey@foodfightinc.com we will gladly send you some gift certificates in the mail for your trouble. Thank you again for taking the time to give a review,

Noelle

Arrives at 12:30 & got a booth right away. Cozy old joint. Decided on breakfast. Great coffee in a never-ending cup. Blue Plate Special Omelet had bacon, cheddar & avocado - prepared perfectly. Nice thinly sliced & seasoned potatoes and a great biscuit. My colleague had the Texas Omelet & said it was really good too. Then we decide on dessert. He had the Fat Elvis Milkshake- chocolate, peanut butter & banana. I had a good old fashioned chocolate malt. Both came topped with whipped cream & accompanied by the mixing container. I couldn't finish, but it was yummy. We left stuffed & cannot wait to go back. Really nice level of service too. Thanks!

My friends and I had dinner here while visiting Madison. I chose this place as I am a vegan and both my friends are omnivores and this cafe had vegan options. The food was great, all three of us enjoyed it. I particularly enjoyed my vegan milk shake! Would definitely go back again if i ever found myself in Madison again. Restaurant was clean and staff was friendly.

Two visits, a month apart, at the very beginning and very end of December. First I visited with my brother around breakfast-time and we sat at the counter, which is actually fairly roomy - I'm glad they have resisted the probably temptation to squeeze in another stool. We both had fairly standard breakfast fare - I a corned beef hash, he some egg and bacon thing - and it was solid or a little better.

Next visit there were 6 of us, including two kids, squeezed into one of their booths which *barely* accommodate that number, and I had to try something not from the breakfast menu, so I chose the vegan massaman curry - a very mildly spicy coconut curry with lots of veggies and coconut rice - which was really excellent. HUGE bowl but I forced myself to eat it all, had to be a glutton with this. My sister-in-law had something like a vegan cheese steak with tempeh, which I tried; I normally hate tempeh but this wasn't bad, so big points for that. Everybody else I think was pretty satisfied with a variety of choices. Coffee is above-average diner coffee, fine when you're eating but I wouldn't come here just for that.

So the huge menu should have enough for nearly any taste, it's good stuff - there are also desserts but we couldn't manage any - and the service is fine. Only real negatives are the crowding and parking which they probably can't do anything about without moving - I don't think there's any way for them to expand in this space. We had a 40 minute wait on a Saturday for the group, which all things considered wasn't so terrible, and there are plenty of places to walk to within a couple of blocks in the area while you're waiting.
