Coffee not superlative but not bad. A nice reason to go there. Second reason: nice space in the back to relax, read, or simply degrade. Cons: no hot food, weak selection of pastries, snacks.

I wrote a review of Zoma about 5 months ago that was critical of the atmosphere. Things have changed since then. They've replaced the grimy floors with new, put a fresh coat of paint on the walls, made really nice menu boards, and spiffed up the counter. Now the atmosphere measures up to the awesome staff and service. Hear more improvements are in the works.

Stop here for coffee or lunch! Especially if it's summer and you can sit in the back courtyard!

I reviewed Zoma earlier this year and had some criticisms about the atmosphere. I'm happy to report that the company that owns the shop (Espresso Royale) has given their fantastic manager at Zoma (Rachel) the go-ahead to spiff up the place. Posting from the corner table, I can say that my favorite cookie today was fresh-baked! NO flies, perfect indoor temperature, and a great cappuccino. And an on-site source (Rachel herself) says they'll be doing some major remodeling in January - including new flooring, a new paint scheme, and new counter space! If my earlier review scared you off, come back soon because it's getting much cooler.

I generally like Zoma, it's my neighborhood coffee shop. Coffee is good, pastries are good (they make them fresh on site). Management and staff are always very friendly. And the courtyard in back, right off the bike path, is exactly what every urban neighborhood needs. But there is room for improvement: first, they often offer day-old pastries in the case while they're baking fresh ones behind the counter. This sends a strong message that customers at our other shops are more important than you. Second, keep the doors shut so the flies and bugs don't come in. And third, the place feels a little grimy. That could be improved by 80% by just replacing that disgusting floor. The courtyard and the staff are the saviors here, but the atmosphere is dragging it down. It's not shabby chic, it's just grimy.
