We were looking for a convenient hotel in Madison for a vacation stay. The Hawthorn suites is an extended stay hotel, which means rooms have a refrigerator, two-burner stove, microwave, dishwasher, and as set of plates, bowls and utensils. The Hawthorn Suites is conveniently locaated within an easy 5-minute walk of a grocery store and numerous eating places. It is about a 12-minute drive to downtown Madison. There were a few issues with the room, but we would mention to the staff on our way out in the morning, and everything was fixed by the time we returned in the afternoon. The bed was comfortable and the room was reasonably clean.

Short and sweet in outline form:
- Room type overbooked and so our room was given away prior to arrival (corporate greed, hooray!)
- The available room didn't have enough sleeping surfaces for a family of 4 to sleep comfortably (even after the inclusion of a roll-away
- After finally (2 nights into our stay) being given the correct room type the A/C unit was dripping water and making some rather alarming popping noises which were reported to the front desk. (This was less than an hour after moving our things from the 1st room)
- Later that evening after returning we were allowed to move out things (for the 2nd time in 2 days) to another suite only to find no shower curtain and no pillows for the hide-a-bed. (The front desks solution to the pillow issue was to take them from the room with the broken A/C unit because they don't keep spare pillows on site?!?)
- All this was done amidst the haze of pot smoke in the hallway, with a bunch of loud people roaming up and down the hallway (I don't really care what people do in their spare time, but I'd prefer my elementary aged kids not be getting contact highs while moving our things to the new room)
- The A/C system in these suites is antiquated to say the least. Consisting of a single A/C unit for multiple sleeping spaces, with the main unit in the living area and hide-a-bed and a small but extremely noisy pass-through fan pushing air into the room with the actual bed. (At least once we were in the room and had the fan up and running we could no longer hear the party going on out in the hall)

Staff is friendly, accommodating to individual needs...The facility provided facilities for our needs which include specialized diets... It's so much easier with a kitchen!! Staff also allowed us to have a late check out time due to the fact that a day surgery had been scheduled at UW Hospital and a little extra rest time was needed the next day.

Great service, nice rooms. Pool was just the right temperature for kids to play. Several good restaurants within walking distance (Great Dane, Thirsty Goat). Easy access to Madison. Would recommend for sure!
