The street cars are very cool and practical. It is cheap and you can buy a 1-day pass. You can go easily to almost all touristic places with the help of those charming trans.
Old timers cannot spend a better forty cents. Ride the St, Charles line to the very end: what an enjoyable ride through the garden district and beyond. Ride the Riverfront line back and forth: casino and shopping back to the French Market and return. Just like the good old days!
Kind and informative drivers, the streetcars are in great shape, a running piece of history. Get the unlimited passes for 1 or 3 or more days.
This is a fun, cheap way to get around if you have the time. A day pass was $3 for 24 hours and we were able to go to the Garden District, casino and down to end of line at outdoor market all on one pass.
Spent four days in the French Quarter and bought the 3 day pass. Best buy for this part of the city. Street cars run frequently, staff are very helpful, and it's an experience most don't have in a city were street cars no longer exist. If in the area definitely take a ride if only for a short trip!
The streetcars were charming and comfortable with their well-polished wooden seats--just call them trolleys or cable cars! The folks in New Orleans are very particular about the terminology. The drivers were courteous and helped us navigate our way easily and inexpensively around those places in the city that were a bit too far to walk. The $3 pass for a 24-hour period was a great bargain ($9 for 3 days). We met a very helpful gentleman (Dave self-proclaimed "ambassador"), while switching from the Canal Street to St. Charles lines, who provided us with a map of the city and recommendations and directions for sights and savings around town. If you are lucky enough to have him offer you some help--take it, you will be glad you did!
