Description: Antoine's, established in 1840, is America's oldest family run restaurant that was the forerunner in the fine dining experience serving up French-Creole cuisine. We are the home to many dishes such as Oyster Rockefeller, and we offer a la carte dining as well as, private dining options. In recent years we have expanded to include our famous Hermes Bar, which offers cocktails, beer and wine as well as a lighter more casual dining experience.

Having attended a conference in New Orleans , my wife and I decided to crown our stay with a dinner at the Famous Antoine's. The story of this place is the stuff of legend... Antoine, a young man from the south of France, Antoine Alciatore, immigrates to New Orleans in the 19th Century and in 1840 opens this restaurant.....175 years later hiw descendants are still at the helm.
For those who would prefer Hollywood references, it was featured in the movie JFK by Oliver Stone, where Kevin Costner is seen drinking his martini and meeting with his DA staff....
The place is superb. Located in the old French Quarter it truly looks like a movie studio , so unreal it feels....
One of our surprises was the Oysters Rockefeller ... Having had them elsewhere I learned that they were created at Antoine's... But they don't look like any of the OR I had elsewhere ... We preferred the Oysters Bienville ..they were so tasty we could have devoured dozens but we had a dinner waiting for us. I forgot to mention that we had an aperitif in the Hermes Bar . It used to be part of the restaurant and pictures on the walls testify to its grandeur and fame...JFK seating and waving at onlookers ...Can't even be imagined in our brave new world.
The menu is classically French and written in Moliere's language for the headings at least. Literature describes it a French Creole because of the Gombo and other non French dishes, we stuck to the French cuisine and its
We enjoyed it all the rare grilled slab of meat , the salads but oddly enough it was the "pomme de terre souflees" that won the day. Seeing our enthusiasm for that tuber as we ordered it several times we were invited to the kitchen to witness how they were made.

This visit is the type that you tell your friends and grand children about . I know , it may sound like a tourist trap but it truly is not .. It is elegant , classic style with experienced staff dressed the old way , story tellers of the first order ( raconteurs) ..We ended the evening with a full tour including the cellar. I will leave the stories about Katrina aside as it is amazing that this underground cellar survived at all....

We had a wonderful lunch at Antoine's. Their special menu was excellent, the 25 cent drinks were a nice plus. Our waitor Jeffrey and his assistant were attentive. The restaurant and its many rooms was most interesting.

My wife has always wanted to eat at Antoine's so this trip we had lunch there. They were running a $20.15 special that was mediocre at best. Very small portions and not very good quality though the deserts were excellent. We won't repeat, there are too many really good restaurants in New Orleans.

Couldn't wait to go. Made reservations a month in advance. Won't go again. Was anticipating an elegant dinner. The couple next to our table was wearing jeans and flip flops! The oysters were awful. The prices were outrageous but I knew that before I went. The food was just average. I don't mind paying for an exceptional meal, but this was absolutely not one of them. Had way better meals at the other four restaurants I had gone to.The other four beat this one - hands down. For great food, go to a smaller or out-of-the-way restaurant. They are everywhere. Only redeeming factor is that our waiter gave us a 15 tour after our meal. Was interesting and the best part of the meal.

I have never been so upset by a restaurant as I was here. I had heard rave reviews about Antoine's and was excited to try it. We went for the price fixe lunch menu, with the special martinis. Unfortunately, they refused to assist with my food issues. I am gluten free and dairy free. None of the price fixe lunches were gluten free or dairy free, and the chef refused to modify the menu items at all. They offered to boil a piece of chicken for me, serve me a plain lettuce salad (no dressing), or I could have a $50 dinner item for lunch. We paid for our martinis and left. I felt very sorry for our server, who was unnerved by my tears.
