I discovered this Lebanese diner fifteen years ago when I lived in the French Quarter and was happy to learn it was still around during a recent visit to New Orleans. As another reviewer said, this is a good option when you get tired of the wonderful Louisiana cuisine. Their hummus and pita bread (white or whole wheat) are always fresh and delicious, but my favorite remains the chicken shawarma lunch which comes with a small green salad and pita. The mint tea is ideal for washing it down. Located on Frenchmen Street, it's ideal for escaping the hordes of tourists in the overcrowded Quarter. There's another Mona's on Magazine Street which I've not visited.

No one really goes to the most gourmet city in the country to get Lebanese food but if you really have had enough of crawfish etouffe, gumbo and blackened catfish then Mona is the place. It is authentic Lebanese like my grandmother used to make and inexpensive. Flavorful and fresh dishes include the grilled chicken, the veggie platter and the eggplant sandwich.

Excellent food and service! Red lentil soup and Greek salad are to die for! Mint tea is very refreshing on a hot night! Very good service too!

After eating for the first time last year at Mona's Café we purposely headed for this Light Middle Eastern Café as it describes itself. We called in for a repeat of our last year meal “Lamb Shank”, and being both English and home of the tastiest lamb you can buy plus longing for vegetables which should accompany this dish, we entered. It resembled an old fashioned American store with a few tables to eat the rest was a counter area which was also the cooking area and the other side of the room was also a counter area with shelves of groceries. Nevertheless we were made very welcome. We had a starter a green Salad which was very tasty with its added salad dressing, we loved the dressing so much, we asked the waitress if we could buy some next thing we knew she had been to the kitchen and asked the cook to make us a pint tub to take home with us. We were still shocked when we saw the large size of our shanks which were cooked exquisitely, the meat just fell of the bone, and the vegetables were such a diverse variety, which we had found really lacking in New Orleans. We intended having a sweet but no way this time, as we were really full, and had enjoyed our meal. The best wholesome meal we had in the City this visit. No fancy stuff just good wholesome food.

Wow! Just wow. This place was totally unexpected by the outside and the appearance, but the food, the food was spectacular. The baba ghanoush was the best I've ever had. The falafel rivaled that of Sultan's Palace in Chicago. The whole experience, from service to food, was well worth the walk to get there. They even ended the meal with Jordan almonds. What a treat after a great meal!
