“Best free thing to do in New Orleans”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 September 2013

Get youself a good stiff drink to go and make your way to the end of Canal St. for a free ferry ride across the Mississippi River. The 45 minute ride will give you the absolute best skyline view of New Orleans, the river and the bridge. Everytime someone comes to visit New Orleans for the first time, this is one of the things I will take them to experience. And it's all free.

“Nice view”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 September 2013

Canal Street is a great starting point to many of the major avenues, get into a streetcar or the take the ferry. Nice view of the city from the ferry and enjoy the Mississippi River itself. A quick walk around Algiers is quite nice to check some cute houses.

“We loved this - it's free too”

It leaves on the hour and half hour and come back at 15 and 45. Sit in the middle where it is open and breezy on a hot day. When you get to the other side instead of coming straight back go and have a coffee or a drink at the bar/coffee shop slightly to the right of the jetty.

“yeah and?”

This review is for NY'ers in NOLA. This about like going to Staten Island only 10x shorter,and,10x,less going,on the destination island of old Algiers. Group of ferry boat passengers zigzagging each other every few blocks realizing there was nothing to see and doubling back but keeping silent lol. Nice view on boat all too short. Any hidden gems I leave to nonplussed follow up commenters. I speak from the seat of pants pont of view.

“Free for pedestrians. $1 per car from the Algiers side”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2013

They say the best things in life are FREE! Make sure you check the ferry schedule to see what the schedule is for that day. With the sun upon my face, and the wind at my back, I glided across the might Mississippi River. The entire ride took about 15 minutes. There's a small parking lot with an attendant that will allow you to park your car, and ride across ( $10.00) fee. The attendant is not there ALL night, so be cautions, and travel in pairs, the area can appear a little sketchy.
