Loved this place !!! This hotel "feels" like what I thought Panama would feel like. A quiet, calm, rustic beach retreat on the Pacific Ocean. This is not a luxury beach resort with fancy amenities. This hotel is a collection of cottages, small houses, and small buildings set into the landscape overlooking the ocean. Each room is handcrafted with beautiful wood. It's rustic ... yet wonderful. It is casual, quiet and laid-back. It's quirky and unique ... and the most "authentic" place that we stayed in Panama. The beach is great, private and quiet. I could have sat under the thatched shade structure overlooking the ocean for hours and hours. The staff was small, but helpful. Internet was ok ... a little slow. No TV or phones. Breakfast was great on the porch. A quick 10 minute drive into Pedasi. A great place to relax and feel like you are in Panama,

Room Tip: The "Vietnam" cottage has AWESOME views. Ask for this one !!!!

I guess we were expecting more from this property as per the review of this place but don't let it fool you. You will be completely on your own with close to nothing to do after 5 PM until breakfast time. It could be the place for a couple leaving monastery style of living and if you're not that style you won't stay too long. So if you want to go don't book more than one night and me be too expensive.

Room Tip: Unless you rent a cabin unit by the sea, forget it.

If your loking for a cookie cutter, fluffy, tropical spa experience you need not go the distance to Los Destiladeros. But if your looking for relaxation including a beachfront bungalow without the company of a few hundred of your closest friends you've found the right place. Much of the decor and furniture and including the architecture has been created be the owner's artisan friends creating a truly unique, eclectic and interesting atmosphere. Get to know the owner and you may find that this tropical paradise that he has created over the past three decades has many hidden treasures including rolling art! The restaurant offers very nice imaginative locavore meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner including a very acceptable selection of wines. The beach is clean and you can find isolated spots for sunning on the sand and beach combing among the interspersed wave hewn rocks.

Room Tip: If at all possible get a beach bungalow

So calm. So nice. So peaceful. I came there for a week, nice small house on the bank of the ocean. Or rather on ocean's cliff. Big lizards, small birds, big Pelicans every morning.
Generally very nice, well mantained place, perfect for couples, perfect for romance and simply escape from city. Simply perfection.

If you want perfection, you won’t find it here. But you will find a stunning property that is a great bargain and pretty kooky. Upon arriving, we learned that the reservations we had made, and paid 50% for, 7 months earlier had been lost, so we didn’t get the Virginia cabin that we wanted. Luckily, the almost-as-good Bouboulina cabin next door was available; I don’t know what we would have done if it hadn't been, and I suggest bringing with you evidence of everything you have reserved and paid. Anyway, lying in bed one can see the Pacific, and just down a short path is a shaded deck with a complete vista of the beach. The cabin itself was wood, stone, concrete and tile, very pretty and with enough room, although not what I’d call big. The air conditioning works well. The restaurant, which also draws non-residents, is a tad confusing. There is a menu, but some nights (presumably low-occupancy nights) it is not available and there is instead one prix-fixe menu, although I understand that if you do not want that menu they can be flexible. On other nights the menu is limited to about four starters, four main courses and four desserts. Our evening meals ranged from very good to excellent throughout our four-night stay, and were moderately priced. Also excellent were the breakfasts – bread, cheese, yogurt, eggs, sausage, fruit – all included in the cost of our cabin. The grounds are nicely kept with stone and brick pathways and tropical plants, which maintain a nice population of birds. The pool was clean. Overall, the sense of beauty, solitude and nature is enchanting. You would pay 10 times as much for the same experience in Hawaii.

This place is more than just a hotel. It is the perfect place for a wonderful retreat. Far enough from the crowd, yet close to other places and nearby Pedasí. It has a direct access to the beach. The bungalows come with sea view. The owner and Carlos, who runs the place, put love and effort into this place and we could feel that in every detail. The two of them and the staff were at our service. The food at the restaurant was great as well. Even when we had a flat tire.
We spent our last four days of a three week road trip through Panama and enjoyed it very very much. We highly recommend for everyone to invest some money and come here for a couple of nights. It is more than worth it.

Carlos and his 2 associates greeted us quite warmly, and they were accommodating and helpful to show us our bungalow choices and then transport our luggage to the chosen bungalow. Glad they were on hand cuz the path to the bungalows is not paved, not direct, not marked, and not lit all along the way. Was easy to stumble and to miss our bungalow—as we did 3x on the way from reception when walking without the staff guiding the way. Destiladeros separate bungalows, each with ocean-facing terrace, on a beach bluff setting is a great concept, but in practice, this hotel misses the mark for the cost. Since we couldn’t navigate the dark, uneven path to/from bungalow/reception, we walked through the grass where the mosquitos and no-see-ums feasted on us. Doorways and window frames are NOT sealed to keep critters out. NO screens on bungalow doors/windows so we couldn’t enjoy the ocean breeze or sounds. We may have risked the open doors and windows, but we’d already been bitten on the to/fro and found bugs in our bungalow and in our bed. For $180 per night, washcloths, hand towels, some type of alarm clock, wi-fi in the bungalows, hot water (totally absent despite 3 different attempts to shower), clean sheets (bugs in ours), and comfy bed should all be standard. NOT so at Destiladeros. No coffee maker in the bungalow. The bed was small (double), and the mattress flat. Either a bug-zapper with an electrical short or an insomniac critter hissed intermittently outside one of our windows all night to a disruptive level. Dinner in the restaurant was just above adequate; breakfast (included) was adequate since espresso and cappuccino are available (included). Chainsaw and hammering on new bungalow construction started at 7:00am ON SATURDAY. Again, gorgeous isolated beach, good lodging concept in theory, but too rustic and too many standard amenities lacking for this way overpriced specialty property. CASH ONLY, no credit cards.

Room Tip: Ask to see several options in your price range before settling on one.
