We spent week 9 (Sportlovet) in this fabulous hotel. As we arrived we were offered welcome drinks while filling out the check-in papers in the lounge. During the same time our luggage was swiftly brought up to our suites and skies down to the garage. We had half-board which included a full “English” breakfast and 5 course dinner and cheese (in case you weren’t full). The food was traditional Austrian and well prepared. There was always a choice of starter and main. Good wine but most of all, everything was wrapped in an excellent engagement/flexibility and service.

Engaged and involved owners who really care about their guests.

The hotel itself went in traditional old style, but clean and proper facilities. Great ski-garage with terrific ski-boot drying function for all guests.

Great Spa with out-door pool and comfortable rooms. Location is perfect, ski-in/out and three minutes to stores and town centre.

STAFF: Well what a gorgeous hotel, greeted on arrival and made to feel special from that moment on...... All the staff were so friendly and could not do enough to make our stay perfect, they were dressed beautifully in traditional Austrian dress.
The owners, the two brothers were always on hand and kept everyone up to date with what was going on in the hotel and locality.
HOTEL: Awesome, room had great views over town and lake, the outside heated swimming pool was just perfect to relax every night, using the great Spa and relaxation area. Breakfast and supper were delicious, with plenty of choice.
Ski to door was a great advantage, and night skiing on slope directly next to hotel.
Thank you Hotel Berner

We have just spent a week at this hotel. Our rooms were very comfortable and well-appointed, the food (breakfast and evening meals) were excellent and that staff are absolutely delightful.

All too often hotels let themselves down by failing to maintain a truly high level of general presentation. Here, everything works, there are no half-baked decorative repairs, light bulbs all work, furniture furnishings etc are all kept in good order.

The evening meals all provided a good choice of tasty, well-presented foods. Drinks are reasonably priced and afternoon teatime provided a daily treat of delightful cakes.

Well done everybody - and thank you!

This hotel surpasses any ski hotel we have previously stayed in. The welcome and friendliness of all the hotel staff is to be highly commended. The Berner brothers take great consideration in caring for every guest in their hotel, from a welcome drink, a trip out on the slopes, guest ski night and a little gift of chocolates to take home. The hotel is spotless and great care is taken in every detail, all the facilities you could wish for in a ski hotel are in this beautiful hotel. However I would recommend going on a diet before you come as my husband and I both put weight on, even after skiing every day, as the food is so delicious! Cakes are also served from 3 till 5, perfect after a hard days skiing.

If you are coming to Zell for a skiing holiday, stay at the berner, you will not be disappointed.

We picked the Berner on the basis of TripAdvisor reviews. Our parameters were: ski in/out, decent slopes without necessarily massive ski area), near a town with some apres ski life (for teenage kids), good quality rooms and food and a pool/spa.
All of these boxes were ticked nicely. What really set this place apart however was the quality of the service and the exceptional friendliness of the staff. Starting with Christoph and Gottfried, the third generation of Berners running the hotel (join their early Monday morning speed-burn through the Zell ski area for an exhilarating cobweb-clearer) through to the thoughtful service from Karin on reception and the efficient and upbeat restaurant team.
It was a faultless performance from a professional hotel point of view. Yet at the same time the place achieves something so rare in hospitality: making you feel genuinely welcome, part of a family, and part of a wonderful tradition.
