My wife and I spent 3 days in Winklerkreuz ,during our Chistmas vacation in Tirol.
It is a lovely, typical Tirolean, house situated 300m away from the centre of Alpbach, one of the most beatiful villages in Austria.
Mr Larch welcomed us with a snap.We stayed at room nr.4,on the first floor. The room was quite big, decorated with warm wooden furniture.Additional sofa-bed,big enough closet and a table with its two chairs. The bathroom was spacious and warm, with brand new equipment and a big window. The room had a balcony-door and a window facing the opposite slope of the valley. In the balcony we could enjoy the afternoon sun.
The room was cleaned every day!
The generous breakfast was served in the ground level,in a charming room where somebody can also prepare a coffe or tea and spend some time enjoying the same amazing view, during the whole day.
But the most important is the hospitality of the family.Mr Larch was offered to pick us from the bus station(Raika). We were given their sleds.Mrs Larch was always smiling. And the day of departure (heavy rain) the son drove us to Brixlegg to catch the train to Innsbruck!!
I found Winklerkreuz into www.tyrol.com,the official site of Tirol. It's very helpful and easy
to use. When you decide about your lodging, you make your booking through Tiscover.
If you travel by public transport,in Brixlegg, where you catch the Alpbach valley bus,you show the driver the voucher (or a printed copy of your booking) and you travel for free to Alpbach.Once you arrived in Winklrkreuz, the family will give you the hotel card.Among other reductions you can use the Alpbach valley bus for free in the whole valley:from Brixlegg to Inneralpbach!
Alpbach is very beatiful.Apart from the ski pists (two bus stops away from the village
centre and in Inneralpbach),you can enjoy a 4 Km long sleding path(address in the information office in the very centre of the village),you can walk the whole village or just relax in a apres-ski place...
We really loved Postalm (you can eat, have coffe or a drink) near the 'Raika' bus stop.
We also did a trip to Kitzbuhel and its famous Kahnenkamm museum. From Brixlegg there are trains to Kitzbuhel almost every hour (change in Worgl-some directly).
In www.OBB.at (Austrian trains) you can find timetables and prices.
Nearest airport is in Innsbruck:Bus F to Innsbruck main railway station. From there frequently train to Brixlegg (45min).
From Munich airport (where we landed) S-bahn to Munich Ost station, from there IC to Jenbach and from Jenbach to Brixlegg local train.
www.DB.de (German trains) or www.OBB.at (Austrian trains).
Overall Am Winklerkreuz is a lovely and quite affordable bed and breakfast, situated in a very convenient location of Alpbach.Go there and enjoy the hospitality of Larch family!!!
