A nice resort, great for kids and families in particular. We were there with a five-year-old and he just adored everything about the place including the pool and water-slide, which is one of the biggest on the big island. The room was large, balcony terrific and we were upgraded to partial ocean view. Food was pretty good at Rays, their flagship restaurant, just so-so at the bar by the pool. The hotel charges 26 bucks for a daily "resort fee", not sure what that got us entirely... I think wifi and parking but it seemed slightly high. What I really liked about the resort was the openness... the fact you could see and hear and feel the ocean run through almost the entire place. It's also centrally located and close to town and to some terrific snorkelling places. It's clean, affordable and doesn't feel "fake" as some overblown resorts are further down the Kona coast. I loved the wine tastings at 5 at reception and the fact you could watch the beautiful manta rays surf the waves while enjoying your dinner on the patio after the sun went down. It's also a great resort to walk around, and has two excellent golf courses nearby. I played both and thought the Mountain course was one of the best I'd ever played. It's absolutely beautiful as is the location of the Sheraton resort. Nice place, try the Spa, you'll love the location out over the water.

Aloha! It was such a delight to read your review and learn about the fun adventure you had at Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay. Our resort is home of the Big Island’s longest waterslide that spills into a freshwater pool complete with sandy-bottom children’s play area. We’re elated that your five year old enjoyed playing in the pool so much and that you had a great time at the Sheraton Social Hour tasting premium wines rated 90-plus by Wine Spectator. We would like to take a moment to clarify for you what some of the activities and amenities are that are included in the resort charge you mentioned. Some of those items included are unlimited complimentary use of Keauhou to Kona Trolley, two bottles of water daily, use of our Fitness Center, complimentary yoga classes, hula lessons, and guided cultural and historical tours. A comprehensive list of the benefits can be found online for anyone wishing to review it. We hope that you will allow the pleasure of welcoming you back soon. Mahalo.

Great hotel for a family. We have 12 and 13 years old kids and we stayed 10 nights. The morning breakfast was absolutely great - lot of choices. Pool area fantastic with big slide. Clean rooms with WiFi (which did not work at pool area). Friendly stuff. You can order all activities around the island from the hotel. Free parking lot for rental cars is nice. But remember to hire car early enough or you don't get one. There is no option to go around without the car - which is big minus. Manta rays visit right a front of the cliff from the hotel and can be seen from the balcony. Nice restaurant but must have a reservation during Christmas time.

Room Tip: Ocean front is nice.

We were happy to learn about your family’s stay at Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay. As an alternative to renting a car, guests of our resort do have unlimited complimentary use of the Keauhou Resort Trolley. The trolley will pick you up right here at the resort and it makes multiple stops in the local area including Magic Sands Beach Park, Kailua Pier and Kona Commons Shopping Center. We’re glad you enjoyed seeing the manta rays and spending time at the pool during your visit and hope that we can welcome you back soon. Mahalo.

I've just been reading the other reviews and can't believe they are speaking about the same hotel!! We stayed here in an Oceanfront room for 4 nights from Dec 17. Our room was large and clean, bed comfortable, everything worked, great wifi, beautiful view over the manta ray bay - and the manta rays haven't moved on, we snorkelled with them and it was one of life's magic experiences - our adult children stayed here after joining us in Waikiki for Christmas and loved it. The seas were huge when they stayed and they had one night with no mantas, but a fantastic dive with them the next night.
The grounds and gardens are beautiful. Great snorkelling just off the rocks - enter the water between the church and little house near the hotel driveway.
We never had to wait more than 5 minutes to be seated at breakfast- the waitress we had most mornings, Emerald was very helpful. We didn't try the buffet dinner but had dinner in Rays restaurant 3 nights- we thought the food was very good and reasonably priced- great cocktails.
The pool was beautiful and we tried the pool bar food - the Hamburger was really good.
Maybe the room decor could be modernised - it wasn't 5 star luxury but we had a wonderful experience at this hotel and would definitely stay here again.
Maybe the critical reviews were all during the very busiest of Christmas and New Year??

Room Tip: Oceanfront rooms on the higher floors are worth paying a bit extra.

My family spent three nights over Christmas 2012 at this beautiful resort. We were upgraded to two room suite. Our kids slept in the pull out sofa. We arrived at night so it was not until the morning did we get to see the glorious view from our balcony.

The breakfast buffet was very busy - seems like there is a little poor usage of space and more tables can be fit into the restaurant. Views outside the restaurant are beautiful! Food was wonderful. We also at at the restaurant - Ray's on the Bay - I had amazing fish tacos!! It is also on water with lights overlooking the surf - at night Manta Rays swim up - it is worth the wait to see these huge creatures!

No beach here - but the views of the water and the lava rock, landscaping are just breathtaking. My kids enjoyed the slide and pool - water was on the cold side - wish the resort would crank the heater up - Mom's don't go into cold water!!! no way!!!

We also ate at the pool restaurant - standard fare - so so but convenient.

Well maintained hotel, friendly staff - we would love to go back!

Mahalo for sharing such a lovely review here for Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay. We’re thrilled you enjoyed the views, cuisine and mantas while staying with us. The manta rays are always a delight to watch as they glide through the water most evenings in the special viewing area near Rays on the Bay. We hope that you will visit us again soon as it would be our pleasure to welcome you back.

I picked this hotel because it was a little bit farther away from downtown and so I hoped it would be quieter. It was sufficiently quiet but there wasn't much else to do there. The concierge staff was great and helpful on finding places for us to go. I did have to wait a long time for the elevator like some other reviewers had mentioned, and being on the seventh floor going up or down with any amount of luggage that got annoying at times. There is only one bar that's open sort of late and it was always hard to find a seat there which got kind of aggravating if you wanted any kind of food and you didn't feel like driving anywhere. Housekeeping also forgot to clean our room one day which was no big deal but I thought it was kind of odd.

Room Tip: We had a mountain view room which I liked because it wasn't as windy as the oceanview rooms

Aloha. It is always our hope to accommodate the needs of our guests and to assist them in any way possible so we are glad that our concierge team could be of help to you.
