This Sheraton is in desperate need of a remodel! The elevator was a little scary - slow and shaky. The hallways just looked run down. The bathroom was clean but very old. We also booked a couples package at the spa. It was just an odd experience. I felt rushed. They were behind schedule and shaved at least 5 minutes off the hot tub and the massages. Not the service I expected for a $300+ package. I did like the open air feel of the resort overall but a complete remodel is way overdue!

Beautiful grounds and resort location. We stayed on the 5th level and enjoyed our view of the mountains, grounds, and a bit of ocean. Very quiet, and slept with our patio door open most nights. A/C was a bit noisy but it worked. Bathroom tub/shower area is a bit worn down but everything was clean and worked. Housekeeping were very friendly, felt front desk wasn't as knowledgeable. Concierge MarLea was very helpful and super nice. We spent most of our days touring the island. Did not eat here, but did use the beautiful pool area.

Enjoyed the quietness of this resort. Would stay again. Luau is tonight so hoping it's a great end to our trip!

The location of this resort along with the main areas of this hotel are great but the guest rooms are in serious need of updating. Hopefully they are planning to address the rooms. It almost felt like the guest rooms were a part of a different resort since the lobby, pool and restaurant were all beautiful. Aside from looking quite outdated, our bathroom tub was covered in mildew. Would not return to this hotel unless they refurbish the guest rooms.

Aloha melissamccrink,
Mahalo for staying with us at the Sheraton Kona. We are happy you enjoyed our gorgeous pool and restaurant Ray's on the Bay. I apologize about the conditions and cleanliness of your guest room. Rest assured, your feedback has been shared with our housekeeping team. Mahalo for your comments and hopefully we can be your home away from home in the near future.

This Keauhou location was recently and extensively remodeled when it was bought by Sheraton. It has a fabulous location on a point, so there is water on two sides. It is huge place with a destination pool including a slide on the lower levels. The rooms are spacious and comfy with a balcony, and the in-room coffee is actually drinkable. The grounds are well maintained and it's a nice little hike around them. It boasts your usual amenities-- a fitness room that I didn't use (usually I do) and the pool that I usually don't use but this pool I did. We got a very good deal on it with a Costco vacation package. The hotel restaurant is pretty good, with a small but good dinner menu, and a breakfast buffet. There is also a poolside bar and a spa where you can get pampered if you want but we didn't.

Room Tip: No suites in this hotel due to its age. "beach" view or bay/town view. We got one of th...

The location is good but the hotel itself was rather underwhelming. We stayed here for seven days while on the Big Island. The grounds are very large and some areas are better kept than others. The food at the pool bar was mediocre - as were the drinks. The cafe had great breakfast sandwiches but their donuts are awful. The one and only time we tried to go to the pool was in the afternoon and while there were plenty of empty chairs, of the ones that weren't broken we couldn't find a single one that wasn't covered in trash. The grounds along the lava rocks are beautiful - as is the area around Ray's and the grass on the other side. Service was good for the most part. Yuki at the Concierge desk was very helpful - if you stay here, DO NOT MISS booking a night snorkel with the Manta Rays!

The rooms themselves (we stayed in an Oceanfront room) were decently-sized, but outdated. The rooms smelled a bit odd (and the water on the property tastes a bit funky). The balcony is a bit cumbersome, the space is just small enough that the table and chairs get in the way - and the concrete of the railing comes up a bit too high so that even seated at the table it's slightly hard to see over. That said, the location of the oceanfront rooms are great for nighttime, where you can watch the Manta Rays swimming in the water lit up right below you. Overall, it seems like this could be a much better hotel with some renovations.

Room Tip: The Oceanfront Rooms - Room 1325 was right against the water and we could watch the Manta Rays at ni...

Aloha Dylan H,

We've stayed at the Sheraton our last two visits to the Big Island, but this will probably be our last.

The properly location is great, with easy access back to Kona, and all the activities on
Ali'i Dr. Also, because you are south of Kona, it is easy to access locations south of Kona, such as two-step, Kealakekua Bay (Capt. Cook Monument), the Kona coffee plantations, etc... especially now that the new bypass road is open.

We had a very good experience with the Hotel Concierge, and booked a very reasonably priced snorkel with the Manta Rays in the water just off-shore from the Hotel. A very positive shout out to "Anelakai Adventures"! They were great!

Some things we disliked at the Sheraton this visit, no IPA beer in the bar (they said they were out), not able to get specialized coffee drinks (other than black coffee), resort fees were high (which is becoming true in many locations, unfortunately), food prices are high for the average quality, the property and furniture is getting worn out and dated. In our opinion, not having typical food/beverage choices seems minor, but for what is supposed to be a full service hotel, it is not acceptable and shows that Management is not doing their job. Where else will they be falling short during your stay?

This is a fantastically located hotel, beautiful views of the shores and black rocks. Boats often spotted nearby at sunset. Large grounds and be difficult to navigate through initially, but you will get used to the layout quickly. Rooms are very large and spacious. Clean and nice balconies. One of the oldest running resorts on the island. Club lounge for platinum members has fantastic perks. Great choice if visiting the big island and want to stay in Kona!
