My wife and I arrived at Honu Kai at halftime of the recent Superbowl game. We walked into a gathering of Honu Kai guests and local friends of the B&B owners, Wendi and Dave. What a great party! It was just the beginning of a fantastic three day stay at their beautiful B&B.

As the Honu Kai website states, they pride themselves on providing 'Concierge Class Service'. I 100% agree with that statement. One of the aspects that we like of staying at B&B's rather than traditional hotels is that we find the proprietors are much better at connecting with their guests and helping direct them to the best restaurants, best sites to visit, etc. In our experience, no one has done that better than Wendi and Dave. Give them an idea of what you want to do on the Big Island, and you'll get expert guidance to get the most out of your day. For example, there was a part of the island we had not explored, so Wendi suggested we go see the City of Refuge, south of the Kailua Kona. She also suggested we stop at The Coffee Shack (great sandwiches and pastries) if we wanted to get food for a seaside picnic. We followed her lead and had an incredible day touring the area. Another day, we were given the pass and access to the beach area where they have another property north of Kona. Dave prepared a cooler for us with snacks and beverages, and off we went. We spent several hours there at the tail end of our day and thoroughly enjoyed the gorgeous beach and scenery.

The B&B property itself is a lush tropical paradise. The lanai is a large and beautiful area which we visited at each day's end (usually after dinner) and enjoyed a glass (or two, or three) of wine and to chat it up with other guests. We enjoy that part of traveling, and Honu Kai offered an awesome place to relax and socialize.

We stayed in the Lani room, and it was quite beautiful. In the morning, we could listen to the birds singing, and enjoy the view of the trees and lush garden below us. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the decor in the room was, like the rest of the property, very tropical.

I don't want to forget about the incredible breakfast we were given each morning. Wendi and Dave put a lot of effort into this daily experience, and we were not disappointed. The coffee was perfect for our tastes, and the fruit and hot food was top notch. Certainly a highlight of our stay at Honu Kai.

If we ever get to go back to the Big Island, we will definitely stay at Honu Kai, only next time......longer!

Mahalo Mark for your review of our Honu Kai B&B and we're glad you were able to join us for our 4th Annual Super Bowl Party on our outdoor lanai. Thanks for mentioning our First Class Concierge Service that made your Big Island experience more enjoyable. We're here to make your stay on our island the very best possible. During your short stay with us, we're glad you made the time to experience our Mauna Lani Homeowner's Beach and Beach Club. We're proud to be the only B&B on the island to offer such an experience. Our Beach Club restaurant and bar 'Napua', is situated on one of the prettiest little beaches on the island, offering outstanding snorkeling and other water activities. We hope next time you visit our tropical paradise, you'll be able to stay longer and allow us the opportunity to share with you more of the hidden secrets that the Big Island has to offer.
Mahalo Nui Loa,

Wow, Wendi could not have been more welcoming. The location is ideal and provides the best of both worlds: close proximity to the airport, amazing beaches, shopping and yet is situated in a tropical wilderness. The accommodations are 1st class. The bed is incredibly comfortable!! Everything is super clean and Wendi has loads of suggestions of what to see and do. She goes out of her way to ensure you have a wonderful time e.g., provides you with coolers, beach chairs, towels, fins, etc. Lastly, her breakfast was to die for, both in terms of quality of ingredients and presentation. She was also very thoughtful and accommodated my dietary restrictions. Her attention to detail is top notch. My only regret is that we didn't stay longer. Thanks again for an amazing stay. We’ll be back!!

Mahalo for your glowing review of our home and the services we are proud to provide for our guests. In our past life when working as a flight crew and traveling all over the world, we understand the importance of sleeping in a comfortable bed while traveling. We like to say that we provide more than just a comfortable bed to sleep in, we provide a space from which to launch your Hawaii dreams from.
We hope that when you do return to Honu Kai, you will stay longer and give us the time and opportunity to share more of the island with you.
A Big Island Aloha to the two of you from the two of us.

My husband and I stayed at Honu Kai 5 nights and were so happy friends had recommended this property. Wendi and Dave are an engaging fun couple who clearly love their work and set the bar high when it comes to hospitality and creating a sense that you've found paradise. The rooms are immaculate, tastefully decorated and fresh flower flourishes greet you daily. The gourmet 3-course breakfasts are as tasty as they are pleasing to the eye.
We spent a day at the beach club and were sent off with a cooler of drinks and snacks. The restaurant there, overlooking the beach, is lovely.
We were treated to a fun evening at a beach barbecue with other guests - Wendi & Dave really do go above and beyond! They are a wealth of information on the island and provide maps and notes on any area you wish to visit, as well as restaurant recommendations.
The large lanai and fire pit area is a great place to start the day, or unwind with new friends at the end of the day.
There is no downside here - book Honu Kai with confidence!

Mahalo Denise for taking the time to share with the rest of the traveling world your positive experience at Honu Kai B&B.
We like to say we provide more than just a good breakfast, but rather we provide a early morning dining experience to start off your days of adventure. We are proud of our breakfasts tailored to the dietary needs of our guests. We are also happy you extended your stay with us allowing us more time to share with you some of the things that only Honu Kai B&B can provide, such as our Mauna Lani Homeowner's Private Beach and Beach Club which is part of our 'Sister Property', our 2 bedroom 2 bath condo situated on the forth tee of the famed 'South Golf Course'. We believe our Beach Club to be on one of the best beaches on the island with great snorkeling and our incredible restaurant called 'Napua'. We're glad you and the other guests enjoyed sitting around our 'fire pit of friendship' and talking story about your daily activities and adventures.
Mahalo Nui for choosing to stay with us and sharing with everyone else your great experience at Honu Kai Bed & Breakfast.

My husband and I stayed at the Honu Kai for 5 nights. Several of the other visitors were repeat guests, some had booked in for several weeks at a time.

Wendi and Dave have rightfully earned their elevated status on TripAdvisor. They are the epitome of hospitality - a rare blend of hilariously fun, unbelievably generous and totally professional all at once. Everyone has mentioned the snorkelling gear and coolers they provide before you head out for a day on the beach...but for us this was just the start. They loaned us gloves and toques for the Observatory, we got to use their beach club pass twice, they helped us with our laundry (there was lots of it...)...but for me the most over the top was Wendi getting up super early to cook us a "to go" hot breakfast when she learned we had to bomb across the island for an early flight out Hilo. Wendi and Dave are THE BEST.

Our room (the Mahina Suite) was very comfortable, beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. I think it's the least expensive room they offer so I can't imagine what the others are like. It overlooks the front entrance below so we worried a little about noise, but this was never a problem. Breakfasts and evenings were sociable and fun, but equally, there was never an issue with privacy.

The location itself has pros and cons - a big pro for me was the cooler temperature afforded by the higher elevation of the property - Kona below was baking at 30 degrees C, while the lanai at the B&B was always a merciful few degrees cooler. The con is that you do need to drive to anywhere you want to go, but having said that, you can cook on the lanai if you aren't into going out and the road connections when you do head out are simple.

The beach club was great fun, fabulous restaurant there and nice to have showers and change areas...if/when we head back I think I'll spend a little more time hiking into the more remote beaches as well - they're pretty magical and the effort is rewarded. We were pretty happy to have spend half our vacation on the Kona side with Wendi and Dave and the other half closer to Volcano and Hilo - the locations are so different and all worth visiting.

Unreservedly recommend the Honu Kai B&B, can't wait to go back!

Mahalo Team Canada for your extensive review of our home and B&B.
It is our mission to make your stay on our island the very best possible. Thanks for staying with us long enough to give us the time to do that for you. It is because of our level of service that we have a 22% level of repeat guests. In addition to the level of service, are the special extras that we are proud to offer guests that no other B&B on island offers. From our very special 'Sunset and Stars' romantic 4 course beach side gourmet dinner for two, to the extra activity you enjoyed twice, access to our Mauna Lani Homeowners Private Beach and Beach Club. Although our beach is one of the prettiest little beaches on island, we do have a large variety of other beaches we are more than happy to recommend and equip you with to enjoy.
Honu Kai is located at the 1,000ft elevation above Kona, making this spot more tropical and cooler than on the coast. Where ever you decide to stay on our island you will most definitely need to have a rent car to get around. It is called, "The Big Island" for a reason.
Don't want to drive the 10 minutes into Kona Town every night for dinner? Taking advantage of our full outdoor kitchen and entertainment center on our lanai surrounded by our gardens is another perfect way to enjoy an evening together with your partner.
We're so happy we made your experience on our island so enjoyable and can't wait for you to come back.
Mahalo Nui,

We recently stayed at the Honu Kai B&B for three nights and wish we could have stayed longer. It was a very comfortable place to stay, and the hosts Wendi and Dave made us feel very welcome. Our room was beautifully appointed, as was the rest of the property. The three course breakfast was freshly prepared and beautifully presented; and served on the very comfortable lanai. It was fun talking to the other guests and couples from widely varying backgrounds during breakfast; or on the lanai around the fire pit table.
Wendi and Dave are an interesting couple and have many fun stories to tell. They really care about their guests. They will recommend restaurants, things to do, as well as their preferred beaches for swimming and snorkeling.
The location is quiet, lush green, and cooler as it is higher up and away from the busy tourist area in downtown Kailua-Kona; but still close enough for a short drive to go shopping and enjoy the restaurants.
Highly recommended for your next stay!

Mahalo Team New Mexico for your review of our home and your stay at Honu Kai B&B.
We as well wish you could have stayed a little longer so we had more time to share all the secrets of our magical island with the two of you. We are glad you enjoyed our 3 course breakfast experiences severed daily with Aloha, and the company of the other guests around our "Fire Pit of Friendship". It is our 'Kuliana', or responsibility to all of our guests that you have the best possible time on our island. We hope that after reading your review, future guests will choose to stay with us longer and allow us the opportunity to do just that.
A Big Island Aloha to you,
