Owner description: Get ready for an intimate boating adventure through Lynn Canal, North America’s longest and deepest fjord! We will get extra-close to the shore while exploring hidden coves, waterfalls, beaches and abundant wildlife on this fun-filled, two-hour sightseeing tour. Your knowledgeable captains will make multiple stops for photo opportunities and wildlife sightings, while providing a colorful narrative throughout the tour. Keep your eyes open for whales, eagles, seals, sea lions, mt. goats and sea birds as we explore the rugged wilderness of this majestic fjord.

...you will love this adventure. We were in Skagway the first of May, in fact we were on the first cruise ship of the season so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. We booked this excursion through Princess Cruises and were picked up at the dock by a very enthusiastic employees. They took us back to The Dome where we were outfitted with flotation suits. Not only did these serve as life saving devices they kept us so warm on this cold and windy day. Christian and Alyssa were our guides and they did an excellent job of piloting the boat and providing nature lessons along the way. We saw an eagle's nest and spotted several bald eagles as well as mountain goats and sea lions (or maybe they were harbor seals). It was a thrilling 2 hours and we would do it again if we ever return to Skagway.

A super fun experience with great photo opportunities. They made the ride great fun by adding high speed donuts while still stopping & spending time for some great photo opportunities. We had a sunny day and stayed plenty warm in the orange outfits they provided (and I get cold easily). While going fast I never felt like I was going to fall off the raft & felt safe carrying my camera (although I did protect it under my outfit to keep from getting wet from water spray). This was our favorite "fun" activity on our Alaska trip and we would do it again.

You are provided a suit to wear over your clothes to ensure dryness and warmth. They also provided goggles and knit caps and gloves. Extremely comfortable gear. Boat captain was an expert in driving the raft and we got up to about 40-45Mph on the water. Seats are saddle seats so you can hold onto the steel bar without fear of falling off. Several stops during the tour to get up and take pictures and changes seats if wanted. We were able to get very close to eagles and harbor seals. A few waterfalls with excellent picture taking opportunities. a deal of fun.

We had a wonderful day for the boat trip, the water was smooth and so was the ride. It might have been more adventurous with some wave action but we take what we can get.
The staff and crew were great. Tessa picked us up at the ship and drove us to the "ThunderDome" fast, efficient and thorough. The Tongass Explorer is a heck of a vessel sporting 750 hp to catapult you across the water. You straddle the individual seats like a saddle and hold onto the pommel bar in front. They do have back rests to help keep you in place when they decide to do a U-turn but Captain Christian kept us upright and off the rocks, always a plus and Alyssa kept us informed about the flora and fauna. Unfortunately the wildlife was somewhat limited, perhaps the time of year. We did briefly see a harbor seal and some unidentified (by me anyway) head bobbing up and going back under out by the island at the end of the Lynn Canal across from Haines. We did see a multitude of bald eagles, including a brown immature specimen. The scenery is absolutely fantastic and you can get up close to the falls along the fjord.
Oh, and they do provide survival suits, balaclavas and goggles to keep you warm and dry on the trip. We had brought waterproof gear but it was unnecessary and we left it in the Dome.
A fun ride that should be on your bucket list.

FUN! The only word I can describe it. From the moment we had to put the orange outfit, to the high speed donuts in the ocean! And they do take many moments to pull up next to seals and Eagles. Things you will never see from the cruise ship or a railroad ride. This is a must. Trust me.
