Our whole family, from grandparents to grandsons, enjoyed our visit to the Native Heritage Center. There is a large, indoor pavilion where we enjoyed young people demonstrate native Alaskan games. Later, we were able to watch a demonstration of a contest between young adults which tested their strength and cunning. Outdoors, there are buildings which are re-creations of native Alaskan structures. In several of these buildings, young adults describe the life-style of their ancestral group. Our grandchildren especially appreciated this "hands-on" learning experience. Our only regret is that we did not time our visit so that we could participate in a tour of the Center.

Took the organised trolley bus to this place. Quite interesting but not spectacular. Not much to see or do in the main building. Some exhibits and live native Alaskan music and dance. Best part of the attraction is the various native Alaskan houses dotted around the lake, each with a guide to explain their particular way of life. Spent about an hour and a half here and that was about right.

Our guide Dustin was fantastic! He really cares about his Alaskan heritage and is so happy to share his knowledge. The Alaska Native Heritage Center is a great start to your trip as I saw several things along the way and thought oh Dustin told us about that! It is so important to keep the Alaskan spirit alive. They offer a free shuttle from downtown also.

This is an amazing place to learn about the different native Alaskan cultures. We especially enjoyed the athletic demonstrations, truly an impressive display of strength and balance. We also enjoyed the dancers, who told stories with their arm and hand movements. Their feet stood still because of the limited space inside of their dwellings. Outside we saw several native buildings, some were modest while others were built with huge thick tree trunks, indicative of the strong people who built them. Some of the young guides spoke with a thick accent, which indicated to us that they primarily use their native language. We found these young people very endearing, some were shy and you needed to initiate the discussion. All of the performers/speakers repeatedly encouraged questions from the audience.

There were some displays, and several people selling their wares.

I would recommend spending 4 hours here.
