“FANTASTIC!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2011

I had a FANTASTIC experience! The Inn was very cute, comfortable and well decorated. My room upstairs had a wonderful view and was very clean. I found the bed to be extremely comfortable. Noise was never a problem. The staff was kind and helpful. I got in at 1am and they did a great job of leaving instructions. Breakfast was displayed well and there was a variety of items to chose from. The location of the Inn allowed for easy access to plenty of attractions.

We spent 2 nights @ the Copper Whale. The location is great. Rooms are small but the views, staff and location make up the difference. Very clean and a nice breakfast.

We loved our stay at the Copper Whale. First - the staff was so friendly and pleasant that we felt at home from the minute we came through the door. The room was small and plain, but had everything we needed and a lovely view. To us the bed was perfect - I didn't expect to sleep so well with a 4-hour time change and daylight lasting until 10 PM! We could sometimes here noise from people passing on the street - but it wasn't a lot. The grounds were so pretty - we really loved the plantings and little waterfalls. And the location was great - easy to walk anywhere we wanted to go in Anchorage. If we come back, we will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We were in the Redoubt room - very nice view of Cook Inlet and beyond.

We stayed here for 6 nights in total at the beginning, middle and end of our holiday of a life time trip to Alaska. "We" consisted of 2 English women celebrating their 50th birthdays with a big trip and 2 x teenage girls along for the ride. We were made very welcome at all times and it was lovely returning here from our travels. The rooms and en suites are well and prettily furnished with comfortable beds. They do vary in size and noise levels from the road but the provision of ear plugs was a thoughtful touch - we were, after all in the heart of the city. We were in walking distance of tourist areas, shops, restaurants and a peaceful waterside walk. The continental breakfast was plentiful and delicious (all sorts of bread, cereals, condiments, coffee on tap at all hours, fresh fruit, fresh fruit salad, juice etc etc). You do have to sit and eat this on your laps in a small lounge area which we did find disconcerting at first.

We loved the Copper Whale - Anchorage is a funky little city and needs to be seen from street level - not from a big hotel. Copper Whale is perfectly located - walking distance to some great restaurants and pubs. We ate at Snow CIty Cafe for lunch, Humpy's for dinner -try the salmon burger.
The Inn overlooks the seaside walking/biking path and rents bikes right out front.
The Inn was perfect - our very comfortable room had a lovely view of the sunset over Cook Inlet, plenty of space, a good clean bathroom with the vanity and sink in the room which works well for my husband and me.
Breakfast was just right - good breads, granola, yogurt - a beautiful bowl of fresh chilled fruit. Everyone eats on tray tables in the sitting area which is quite charming.
Glen and Nick went out of their way to be helpful and to offer suggestions for our stay.
We highly recommend Copper Whale, especially for travelers who want to avoid the Tour Bus crowd.

Room Tip: Some rooms have shared bath, but there are lots of room types - be sure to ask.

We stayed here twice, at the begining and then at the end of our Alaskan adventure. Both rooms were very comfortable and very clean. The baths had lots of shampoo and conditioner, and a hair dryer (not important to me, but a neccessity for my companion.) We slept well. Breakfast was wonderful! I generally don't eat much for breakfast, but there was so much offered I feel like I pigged out. There was yogurt and fresh fruit - the berries were amazing!! There was rustic breads, bagels, oatmeal, cereals, and several pastry items, and probably some things I'm forgetting. Coffee and hot water were available at all times, along with fruit - bananas, grapes, apricots! The innkeepers were helpful in helping us decide which things we wanted to do in Anchorage, and which restaurants to go to, and pointing us in the correct direction. We rented a bike just out front and enjoyed the coastal trail just a block away. We loved the gardens and the fish pond. The fish had just been moved outside our first stay, and were hiding in the rocks a lot. But on our return stay, we got to see them quite a bit. Also, on our return the gardens had grown immensly! The flowers were amazing. We got to meet the gardener - what a lovely lady! In fact, all the workers at the Inn were wonderful! All in all, we had great stays. Comfortable rooms, great breakfast, super nice workers, great location. If ever we get to come back to Anchorage, we're staying here!
