Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race
Reviewed July 22, 2018

This is a must see if going to Alaska in March. I had wanted to see this race for a long time and finally went first in 2012. It is amazing to see these dogs excitement to run.

Have watched the ceremonial start several time in Anchorage(March) and aleays fun. Even more fun is the actual start in Willow about 30 miles north.

Our guide was Meredith (who also competed 2018) was very knowledgeable, caring and patient. The dogs are well cared for and show their enthusiasm for the sport. They really want to GO!!!!!! When we visited (June 2018) there were puppies who were adorable. Although in my head I wanted the snow version of sledding but of course it is summer and the sled is a bit different. Great experience, You should go!

Iditarod has had its share of problems and scandals lately. However the ceremonial start in Anchorage is a unique event and fun experience. Might seem like a bit of a barking dog madhouse on 4th Ave during the start. The trail becomes more remote and less accessible the farther you get from Anchorage and Palmer areas. Despite recent bad press, I still support Alaska’s Last Great Race. PETA can protest all it wants. Alaskans support the Iditarod and dog mushing.
