“its a comfort inn...so...yeah...its okay”
Reviewed 25 September 2010

you get what you pay for.
the lobby is nice, the reception staff were fine - not overly friendly, not completely uninterested, the pool is small if you are looking to swim laps at all, the rooms were fine - sheets & towels seemed clean...HOWEVER....the bathrooms seem to trip them up...my father's room had NO shower curtain (they installed one the next day after he alerted the staff), and my bathroom smelled very, very mildewy. also, there was mold growing in the bathroom & the shower curtain was so stinky that im surprised that my allergies didnt go bonkers. other than that, its a fine location, the breakfast is nothing spectacular but fine (cereal, toast, dry biscuits & suspicious "gravy", make-your-own waffles, etc.), & its just about what you would expect a comfort inn to be. one more thing - if you are a light sleeper, you may want to pack earplugs because the walls are very thin.

i had seen some bad reviews of this place online and had my doubts, but it turned out to be really nice. everyone, from the shuttle driver (we only had to wait about 15 minutes at 1am) to the people at the desk, was friendly and helpful. we stayed there a total of 3 nights. the first two, we were in an average room which was fine. we came back after a couple of nights at denali, and were in a lovely, large room. everything was clean, the included breakfast was very adequate, and the shuttle service was very handy. the location was wonderful. i'll probably never be back in anchorage, but if i were, i'd definitely stay here again. people had mentioned noise from the nearby trains, but it didn't bother us at all.

Service was great, from van pickup at airport (driver even gave us a little tour of the town and points of interest---after making sure we would like to do that and weren't in a hurry to get to the hotel) to the people behind the desk. Everyone was friendly and they where willing to give you a lift as well as pick you up from town. Though it is an easy walk into town (and to be honest I am out of shape and over weight, so when I say it is an easy walk it is).
Even though check-in isn't actually till 4pm, (our plane got in at around 12:30 pm) our room was ready for us so we where able to check in right away. Room was more then I expected, it even had a kitchenette with a table that sat 4 people. It wasn't fancy but the room was clean and comfortable and everything worked. Though to be honest I did have a little problem with the toilet a couple of times (I had to open the tank and check the water level, the rubber plug wasn't covering the opening completely and the water wasn't filling up correctly), but it wasn't a big deal. I did request that our room over looked the creek which I was able to get.
It is really close to the train station if you are going to be using the train, which we did to get to Whittier to board our cruise ship. That was the main reason I choose this hotel as well as the good reviews I read about it and the price helped too. They are more then happy to give you a lift to the station though if you want it.
There isn't any restaurants near the motel, just in town but we ordered pizza from one of the places listed in their room booklet, we wanted to just relax we had a long day. In the morning my husband had their biscuits and gravy and I had a pastry, we did take it back to our room since the dining room is small and we had the kitchenette and figured to leave space for others (don't know if all rooms come with the kitchenettes).
Oh yes, we did take a walk along the trail by the creek, that was nice.

We tried to save our big expenditures for the important places -- Denali and Kenai Fjords -- so did not want to break the bank on our last night in Anchorage before flying home. As a family of 5, it is always tight in one room, but the Comfort Inn Ship Creek had two queen beds and a comfortable rollaway bed. The pool is small, but clean and warm, and the breakfast service was convenient and extensive enough to hold over our teenagers until lunch. There is a computer in the lobby to print out boarding passes, and we found the staff helpful and courteous. This is not a luxury hotel by any means, but it was a good value as we wound down our trip in Alaska.

This hotel is just a stroll away from downtown Anchorage yet a little tucked away. It is conveniently located across from the train station so you can walk to board the train in the morning. Very convenient and quiet, too!

When you go to a hotel and $150 on a room, you kind of expect air conditioning and a working toilet. I guess our standards are too high! The staff was VERY rude and lied to my dad about what my mom said. I was there when my mom talked to him. My mom asked him if he was traveling with his family, would he like a working toilet. He was very rude about this and said that he ONLY traveled in RV's and he ALWAYS checked FIRST. The air conditioning also did not work and the bath tub was moldy. Don't stay here! There IS a reason why it's the cheapest in Anchorage.
