Recommended by numerous friends who went to school in Omaha. Great Scotch selection, although they did not have the first two I selected. Fish and chips and Reuben were great. Kind of a dive but a lot of fun. Knowledgeable, friendly staff.

The Dundee Dell, which has been around for a long time, is known for its world-class collection of scotches, over 700 individual bottlings. In this respect, it is in a league of its own. It claims to have the largest single malt collection in the US and one of the largest in the world (27 pages worth), and that is easy to believe. On the other hand, the food is pretty average. The fish tacos were very good, although the filling dominated the fish. It requires quite a bit of fish to make the main ingredient obvious in fish tacos. The bangers and mash were mediocre comfort food with what tasted like canned gravy. There is a decent sized beer selection available. When the Dell was bought recently by the owners of Absolutely Fresh, there was the promise of more fish and more interesting dishes on the menu. The night we were there, a Saturday, this was not apparent. The Dell is a superb place for scotch, good for beer and their fish and chips. Otherwise, similar to many other places.

Generally a nice restaurant/pub, but I'm afraid my hopes for British-style fish and chips were dashed ... and thus my overall opinion of the place. Seating was good, the atmosphere was pleasant, but the fish and chips were quite disappointing by any measurement, let alone comparing them to England's. Plus the service was amazingly slow, albeit quite pleasant.

Had lunch and were served quickly by friendly server. We chose the famous Reuben sandwich which was delicious. A large range of beers were on offer including European beers at reasonable prices. We have visited before and have not been disappointed. Parking is available on the street.

The Dundee Dell is an Omaha institution that will always have a special place in my heart. In fact, this little joint is the perfect analogy to its home town. It's quirky, unique, and unexpected. The kinda place you ignore, but enjoy when you discover it and learn that it's a solid place to drop and and chill out.

And if you do decide to visit, and perhaps slide into one of their old wooden booths across from the bar, you'll discover that The Dell is also kinda famous for a couple reasons. First, their fish 'n chips, which I assume because it's unexpected. And while I like it, people are pretty much divided. Personally, I agree that their breading is far too heavy. But they have a light batter too, and if you pair a piece of fish with some greens, things aren't all that bad. Their food is generally pretty good for bar fare, and their liquor selection is top notch. Which is the second thing they're famous for. This little dive has the largest selection of single malt in the whole of the United States. Although that title may soon be a thing of the past now that the owner who built that collection is gone and the new ownership is less knowledgeable and committed to that endeavor. But while they've got it, you should definitely enjoy a dram if you're here. You'll find things at the Dell that it's hard to find anywhere else.
