Fun place to check out and grab a cold one. The historical belt-linked fan system is nice to witness after all these years. Make sure to bring cash, there is a ATM though on site.

Great little gem in a historic building. The steak sandwiches are really good and under $10. Service folks are really nice and friendly. They also have ceiling fan system that is original from the mid 1800's that is worth seeing. Burgers start at $6.

One afternoon, I stumbled into the Worthen. The drinks were cheap and they have a great beer list. I liked it so much that I brought my boyfriend the next time and we had a lot of fun. We plan on making this a local spot we visit. The Worthen also has a great history too and it is so awesome to visit a place where literary greats once frequented.

I saw this restaurant when walking close by to the old city hall and library. The oldest tavern in Lowell and still offering the best beer and burgers. Ordered beer, sweet potato fries and burger for a quick lunch. The building is original and check out the only existing fan - belt system in the US. The bar is designed like the 1890's and the copper ceiling is still intact. Just like walking backward in history with this old tavern!

Hi Renato,
Thank you very much for your kind words! We're glad you enjoyed it and hope to see you again in the near future. If you do happen to come in please ask one of the girls for Penelope as I would love to buy you a beer.

The dark street level bar is packed with regulars who know each other. The second floor bar and entertainment area is supposedly haunted by a ghost named Matthew who holds court when one least expects it. Drinks are cheap...the burgers are hearty. It was good enough for Edgar Allen Poe, Ed McMahon and Jack Kerouac so it's plenty good enough for me. I can't get back there soon enough.
