“Best of Lowell on a summer night”

Boarding House Park
Ranked #8 of 29 things to do in Lowell

When there's a show at Boarding House Park, it's the best Lowell has to offer. They get some relatively big names as well as some quirkier acts and are a main stage for the annual Folk Fest. Depending on the event, there are often food or beer vendors there. Getting in and out is easy, and tickets are affordable (or free for folk fest!) Sitting out under the trees on a mild summer night is pretty great regardless of who's performing.

I've been to this venue several times for concerts, the last one being Vince Gill & would recommend getting hear early to assure a decent spot to sit. Space fills up quickly starting when park opens @ 7am.

I have been here twice. The first time was five stars. Staff was super helpful. There was plenty of room to put your chair.
fast forward three years, and my second time here was zero stars. This was a sold out show. We were sent an email that said to get there an hour and a half early, in order to secure a spot for our chairs. We did as they said but there was no open space!! The staff was not at all helpful in finding us a seat. We were told that we should've gotten there earlier. We ended up off to the side by the tour buses. The hum of the buses were so loud that we could hardly hear the show. I later found out there were sound issues on stage, but we couldn't even hear the chatter between the artists, which is the best part of seeing a show in such a small place. Also, bring regular size chairs. We brought sand chairs (also suggested by an email). We could not see over the people in front of us that were in camp chairs.
It wasn't until the next day that I learned that people are allowed to put down a blanket or chair when the park opens at 7:00 am!! How fair is that to those of us who are coming a distance?!!
For this reason alone I will NEVER go back. I paid $398 for six of us to walk out half way through the show.

This is an outstanding venue that showcases some top notch talent. Small & intimate, with great sight lines to the stage, and wonderful acoustics. And all for an affordable price tag.

An example, last nights performance by Vince Gill. Went with another couple, had a wonderful meal just down the street and then settled in for 2 hours of pure enjoyment compliments of Vince & his great band mates.

Kudos to the National Park Service, local volunteers, and business community sponsors !

Boarding House Park and the Lowell Summer Music Series is a great place to see a show during the summer months. I have seen everyone from Cake to Lyle Lovett to Chris Issak to Lucinda Williams. Great pricing and easy in and out. Check it out!
