Description: Amuse is a seasonal, farm to table driven restaurant, located on the third floor of the museum. Whether you are dining in our main dining room, full-service bar, or our private dining room, you will be able to take in sweeping views of the Robins Sculpture Garden and the museum’s Cochrane Atrium. Our team works diligently to provide a menu that is directly inspired by the art-filled surroundings, current exhibitions, and seasonality while also carefully selecting only the finest ingredients from local vendors, artisans, and farmers.

I often take company to Amuse. We will first visit one of the museum galleries, then relax in Amuse with a delicious drink. Today it was made with champagne and strawberries. My sister and I shared an appetizer of mussels that were superbly prepared in a light butter sauce with pecorino cheese. I then had seared scallops, a special of the day, that were cooked to perfection. The service is always top notch.

The service was great, the menu eclectic but the food was surprisingly salty. We had come to Richmond to see the Yves St. Laurent exhibit and decided to eat at the museum rather than venture out into the museum area. I tend to go very light on the salt and while my entree was tasty it was saltier than I would have liked. My husband also felt the same way about his dinner. I had the Wagyu flank steak and he had the coq au vin. We did like the wine selection and the one our server recommended was excellent.
This is not a cozy place. The tables were set far apart which is good in a way but felt a bit sterile. We booked online for a Friday night and the latest slot we could book was at 6:30 but people tended to arrive even at 7:30 and it was livelier then. At 6:30 the crowd was sparse.
I would give Amuse a second try because I did like the menu variety.

Amuse has a very nice menu and good food, but it's the fact that it's located in Richmond's #1 attraction that makes it a can't miss. We went on a Friday evening in June, during a Friday Wine Night and truly enjoyed ourselves. The museum has a surprisingly eclectic collection and a GREAT sculpture garden, which we overlooked while we ate. DO IT!

We ate lunch at Amuse twice this week; the first time because we had reserved that the museum for the Yves Saint Laurent temporary exhibit; the second time because we liked our first experience so much.I had the fried oysters and crab cake both times--they were so good! My wife had the tuna tartar first meal; salad and cheese plate the second time. All was exceptional. I also had the "Le Smokng" cocktail. Invented (as were other cocktails) on site by a very, very talented bar staff to complement the YSL exhibit (this celebrated the iconic YSL Le Smoking dresses). We love this place and will be back!

I've been here multiple times either for brunch with a group of couples, or lunch with the girls. Each time the service and food quality is first class. While the menu has multiple options for apps, salads and entree's, I would not go so far as to to say the menu is extensive. But it does offer a good variety. And if you want to alter your entree in some way (i.e. hold the bacon), they are always happy to accommodate. In addition, they offer a nice variety of wine by the glass, and also some fun themed cocktails (usually tied to a current exhibit). The views are great, and they do have a small area of tables that are outdoors if you prefer to dine alfresco. The dining area while not huge, the tables are far enough apart so you don't feel as if you are part of your neighbors dinner conversation. In addition, if you happen to be a VMFA member they do offer a small discount for members. After you finish your meal, you can always stroll the exhibits, or stop by the VMFA gift shop. And finally, I would encourage you to always make resies. I've been surprised at how busy they are in the middle of the week for lunch.
