This Indian restaurant regular finds Anohka to be top notch and one of the best N. indian restaurants in the mid- Atlantic region. The lamb rogan josh is exceptional and worth a detour and the hassle of dealing with the seemingly constant traffic congestion in this Short Pump corridor. For some unknown reason the dish is only on the lunch menu so you must request it for dinner in a slightly larger portion. The heat varies but usually medium is perfect. Either way, every drop of the sauce will be consumed with the help of some naan and extra rice. Don't pass up on the coconut lime soup if it's on the menu as it's delicious and sublime with varied nuanced flavors that remind one of 100 foot journey. Not to be missed.

Had been to Anokha on atleast 10 occassions and had a good experience on each visit with family. We went there mostly for lunch and had vegetarian food.
The main course comes with a choice of salad/soup, Nan (bread) and rice. The soups and salads are different and really appetizing, making you crave for the main course. The main course dishes though limited in choice are very tasty.

Had their Veg Biryani and loved that as well... The staff is attentive and offer service with smile. Would definitely recommend to Indian food lovers to check it out.

1) Prices. Lunch specials are the exact same as what you'd get for dinner, but several dollars less each dish, and the exact same size. Two ppl can eat for $20-$30 depending on what you order.
2) Bonus. You get a salad/soup, naan, rice, a veggie side, and a tiny dessert - all included in the price. We often walk out with small leftovers.
3) Seating. There's a much broader range of "lunchtime" it seems, and there's always a seat, no waiting, and you also don't have to worry about the parking during the after-work-rush that Short Pump gets.
4) Menu. It's the same as the dinner menu - but if there is something that's NOT on it that you're craving, just ASK THEM to make it and we've always had them accommodate us. I go for the Lamb Mango, which they took off the menu at least a year ago, but obviously they still know how to make it ... and this goes in general for other dishes. I once went 4 times in one week, and the last time had no idea what I wanted, so I told them to just surprise me with something that wasn't on the menu ... and they did, and it was delicious.

To be clear, since it seems that there is some confusion, this is the style of Indian food with creamy sauces - and the sauce is considered part of the dish. The reviews saying there wasn't much meat or something, perhaps failed to notice that the meat was in a whole bowl of sauce the is meant to go with naan and rice and the sides. Too bad for them.
And, I've also come for dinner, but compared to the deal that you're getting a lunch it feels not as worth it ... again, you pay more for the same meal, it's just dinnertime instead of lunch!

So, go for lunch - geez - did you read the review?? ;) ;)

I had been to Anokha based on the online reviews, since the ratings say it is the best indian restaurant in Richmond. But sadly that was not the case for me. the food quality, taste was pathetic and the portions were too small for the price. We ordered goat curry as it was their specialty but the pieces were all ribs and the curry didn't taste that good either. the tandoori platter was all bland with very very less spices and not good portion for the money.
Never gonna visit anokha, will choose other Indian restuarants like Lehja, market cafe over it.

We also ate here on Nov 1, as the previous reviewer, but we did eat at the bar. It is a tiny bar and they are not really set up for meals there, but we had fun with the bartender and it was the end of the night. The chairs are very comfortable at the bar. We have eaten here 3 times in the last couple of months, the food is just delicious. I think we have been to all of the Indian restaurants in town, most many times. The topped ranked Lejha does have a more upscale and comfortable atmosphere ( I agree with the previous reviewer about the crowded layout here), but we think the food at Anokha is better and less expensive. They are planning to expand here which they need to do. I also agree with the previous reviewer, the cucumber salad is fantastic and very unique (and healthy). The samosas are also great and very popular. Chicken Tikka Masala is hard to resist and we usually have lamb korma, which is so good. They have good specialty drinks as well that everyone seemed to be ordering.
