Went to the Lilly Pad with friends who stumbled upon it. At first glance I thought they had to have been confused that it could be a place where food was served. Turns out the food was great. Our table got hamburgers that were very fresh tasting with a great siracha relish. We also had the steamed shrimp that were delicious. It was too hot 100+ to eat outside but we look forward to watching the boats go by the next time we come. The guys that waited on us were friendly and accommodating. What a nice surprise right on the water.

We were staying at the marina next door and walked over to have dinner based on our hosts recommendation. The place is far from fancy. You have to enter the building, place your order from the board inside, then you can eat indoors or outdoors. We walked outdoors and sat in one of the gliders to enjoy the view of the setting sun on the James River. Our food and drinks arrived quickly. One of us opted for the burger with a spicy sauce and the other had the Lilly Pad oysters. Another couple joined us and we all chatted away until the place closed at 9am. The lone waiter was very friendly and helpful. The prices are reasonable especially given the quality of the food. Don't let the looks scare you away from the great little spot. I understand they occasionally have music and serve breakfast on Sunday.

Seasonal little joint. Not an attractive place but kind of funky looking where nothing matches. Has a limited chalkboard menu where everything is fresh. I never had a bad experience there. The crab dip is great and the dungeoness crabs are excellent. Nice location on the James river beside a marina and boat ramps. Makes for a great destination by boat, bike or motorcycle.
