Review of Mayflower Hotel
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 23, 2021via mobile
We stayed at the Mayflower for a week and was thoroughly impressed with the hotel as a whole.

The hotel is situated a 5 minute walk away from the seafront which is packed with bars, restaurants and cafe’s to choose from. You will not be short of things to do or places to eat and drink!

The room was spotless and clean when we arrived which is always a good start. The bed was comfortable and the room itself was modern and spacious for two people. The bathroom was also spotless and the shower was of good water pressure.

The star of the Mayflower hotel has to be the Sky Deck and infinity pool located on the roof. It is a proper sun trap and we spent time up there every day. The pool is lovely and spacious and there is plenty of sun loungers to choose from; both in the sun and in the shaded areas. The lads running the bar on the roof terrace were always lovely and chatty and there was always a selection of beers, cocktails and soft drinks to choose from.

Before visiting we read a lot of comments about the breakfast service being slow. We on the other hand never had to wait more than 10 minutes to get our breakfast which I think is perfectly reasonable; considering the circumstances with Covid restrictions. It was a bit chaotic sometimes when staff left the serving area to refill the food items but other than that breakfast was always easy and painless. The food was always fresh and tasty, the coffee was really nice, and you can have as much as you like!

The staff at reception were always extremely helpful, polite and on hand to deal with any requests that you may have.

All in all I would definitely recommend the Mayflower to anyone wanting to stay in the St Paul’s Bay Area. The room was clean, service was fantastic, breakfast was tasty and the rooftop pool is an absolute gem.

Room Tip: Don’t waste space in your luggage bringing beach towels, the hotel provide fresh ones for you...

It's a beautiful hotel, very friendly staff brilliant roof pool. Rooms are big and stylish with a huge double bed. Tea and coffee in the rooms. Towels and bedding changed daily.
The only thing that's missing is a big mirror in the bedroom - - there's only the 1 in the bathroom also some sort of slip mat in the bathroom is needed as floor gets very slippy when wet. Other than that an amazing hotel

We stayed here between 9th July and 23rd July, first impressions the Hotel was very nice, spotless and the staff was very friendly. We paid extra for a sea view room and to our astonishment the only sea we could view was between the buildings and other apartments opposite. The view was of buildings waste land and 3 big cranes for the building work going on, which started at 6.30am every morning except Sunday!! This was very disappointing!! Now to the breakfast routine which was a shambles, breakfast was between 7.00am and 10.30 and because of covid you get allocated a time slot when you are expected to go for breakfast, ours was between 9 and 9.30am, however the queues some mornings was horrendous, we didn't bother going for breakfast the second week it was too much of a pharce and we went out for breakfast. The infinity pool was lovely, however on TUI website they state the pool has its own bar this is not the case, you have to go down 10 floors in the lift, which broke down 3 times whilst we were there to get a drink from the bar, when it was open, some days it didn't open!! On the 3rd night we were there I noticed my Olaplex shampoo had gone missing, so I reported it to reception who took details and when we got back at night there was a letter in our room, stating that the maid had been with them for many years and was very trust worthy ( I don't know how she could have been there many years when Tui state on their website that the Hotel had only opened its doors and was new for 2021) nothing was done about the shampoo!! Would I stay at this Hotel again NO I wouldn't.

thank you for posting your review.

First of all I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

I would like to clarify a few things for the sake of people reading this review.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we decided to have two sitting for our guests to try and reduce the waiting time. Unfortunately this was not always the case and since service was buffet assisted, sometimes we ended up with people waiting. Our staff did their utmost to cause the least inconvenience to our guests.

With regards to Olaplex shampoo gone missing, a letter was sent to your room, asking you to contact reception to discuss issue further. I personally spoke to maid (who has been with the company and worked in our other hotel, Sunflower hotel) for a number of years, who assured me that she did not touch the shampoo, and that as a matter of fact there were 2 Olaplex shampoo in bathroom.

Should you wish to discuss further please feel free to contact me on malcolm.buhagiar@mayflowerhotel.com.mt

thank you

This is a brand new hotel where the rooms are spacious and modern, albeit with rather small balconies unless on the 9th floor; the staff are all excellent and with the best swimming pool in Malta.
The pool does lack a bar but they now have sporadic waiter service or, better still, bring your own drinks - kept cold in the fridge in your room. Beers cost €0.65 in local shops!
Breakfast was a tad chaotic but the food was always topped up. It just took a bit more time than it might have to get served.
The location is fab. A 5 minute walk to almost all points in Qawra and Buggiba, especially the beaches and restaurants. The bus station is literally 2 minutes away so no need to hire a car. The whole island is accessible, including the airport on the X3 bus (€2 or 12 rides for €15 - pass can be shared between 2 people).
All this for the price of a Travelodge on the motorway in England.
Book it!!

We stayed here for 4 nights from 6th July. On arrival we were impressed with the decor and ambiance of this hotel.

Our room was spacious and had a mini fridge, kettle and tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was spacious with shampoo, shower gel and soap provided in small individual containers. Towels were clean and fresh and the room was serviced each day of our stay.

The infinity pool on the sun deck was lovely. The only problem with the sun deck is there is no bar available to purchase drinks and light snacks. This meant having to use the hotel bar on the ground floor which was a little inconvenient at times. A missed opportunity here for the hotel I believe.

Unfortunately the balcony to our room had no sun all day and this was a little disappointing.

The breakfast service was disorganised and chaotic. This was a concern for us as no social distancing adhered to. This issue was resolved on the last day of our stay at the hotel as the hotel management split the breakfast into two sittings. The only problem that remained after this was the lack of clean tables, possibly due to staffing issues.

Location is quite central for restaurants, bars etc and the sea front is less than a 5 minute walk.
