Pretty good really...

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 2, 2020
Well after my holiday was partially wrecked with The Primera Hotel (am a regular) closed ,and the hapless Travel Republic totally cocking up my booking at The Topaz Hotel (don't book with them!) I found myself in the cheapest on Hotel.coms list, The Cardor.

I am practically a resident in Qawra and know where it is.
Have stayed in The Canifor Hotel a few times, but never their apartments The Cardor.

I must say I was very pleasantly surprised.
Ok I had no balcony. But I want in there much.
The Aircon was non existent and in July? Phew! But again was minor.
The TV was not in the bedroom but kitchen and no free remote. So I never bothered.

But what I got for my money, and it was cheap for the time of year was a great base.
Bathroom was new and great.
Cleaning to a high standard regular change of towels and freshen up.
Fridge was brilliant to keep your drinks really cold.
Crockery and cutlery handy for takeaways.

Staff were polite and friendly too.

All in all, it was fine. No complaints from me.

I would stay again but probably not in July. The nights were very hot.
Plus I do like laying in the bed watching TV in the quiet times.

So probably a hotel room but for bargain apartment style holidays? The Cardor ticks a lot of boxes.

Terrable place to stay. No reception you have to book in round the corner at the califor hotel. Then get a lift downstairs through the bar out the back door round the pool and through the back door of the cardor.we payed for a room with a land veiw OMG. Front window over looked the stairs and lift and other rooms. The back was a brick wall to which eveey one dumped the rubbish. All that was missing is the bars on the windows.
The staff. Were do i start. We were the 6 days and i didnt see one crack a smile. We tryed all week but to no avail. Not kid freindly at all. The food was ok tho. Little to no entertainment.
But please dont let it put u off malta. Fantastic place we go every year. Just say no to cardor

nice hotel near beach and about a mile from town square, staff are overworked and tend to be moody, but overall they try hard.
the accommodation is a lottery, some outside apartments, some nice rooms and some on the annex which seem very basic, some have kettles and working fridge, and some have hairdryers and some do not, rooms were cleaned every day, and food served in restaurant area was edible but not 4 star, but to be fair some thing to eat each day, and for the price of holiday food selection was ok.
entertainment was poor and was focused on the local community who enjoyed there dancing, and the average age was 60+, but it was nice to watch them enjoying themselves and they all took there time to dress in some of there finest clothes, and i cannot see anything wrong with that.as there was plenty of pubs around for karaoke or more modern music.

Room tip: room in main reception area and above seemed more modern

Please spend a few more pounds & book an alternative!
We were quite literally booted off the bus by Malta Transfer, the hotel was in darkness & the doors were locked, with a note advising to go to the Canifor hotel “around the corner”, no directions as to which corner! Luckily someone out of the pub pointed us in the right direction.
We got to the reception desk, where it took an age to be acknowledged & checked in. The Cardor is clearly the poor relation of the Canifor....
Our apartment absolutely stank of stale smoke, the “sofa” was covered in stains, the kitchen area was dirty, grubby and dated with unusable utensils. The bathroom had been modernised but was again dirty. The sleeping quarters were a disgrace...the bedspreads were filthy, grubby, they had numerous marks on & cigarette burns. The air con / heating unit was disgusting (apparently we could pay to rent the remote control from reception), we didn’t as we were worried to use this due to the state it was in!
Our travel agents opened on the Monday & agreed (after us sending photos) to move us to the Huli apartments over the road, which was a breath of fresh air in comparison!
Please avoid the Cardor as you will be disgusted - although it is a budget apartment it is not habitable! Even our travel agent agreed how horrific it was once they had viewed the photos!

I always choose cheap 3 star hotels because I dont spend too much time in them.On a plus side the staff are all friendly, the breakfast was great there was a fridge a kettle a cooker and grill. The room was cleaned every day and beds were made and fresh towels supplied.
However I would never stay here again noisy at night from a loud humming sound that came on and off,I could hear the lift, the beds creaked if you so much as moved, there were cochroaches in the kitchen and who knows what was in the mattresses but I have more bites and lumps on me from sleeping on them the kitchen tap leaked the view from the tiny balcony was a building site and the hot water tank was so small I couldnt have a bath.
I know it was a cheap hotel and I dont mind roughing it a bit but come on ! this place needs some serious money spending on it to bring it up to date new mattresses would be a good start I dont like to be negative but there are far better places to stay in the area for around the same money

Room tip: go somewhere else
