I can almost recommend travel without reservations to anyone. We found Woodstock, VT and The Charleston House just before dark on a chilly October evening. With no reservations we saw the vacancy sign at the The Charleston House and stopped. Dixie and Willa were kind enough to take us in as they had three rooms left on that Sunday night (we were lucky that Willa suggested to Dixie that we have the upper room as the lower one needed a radiator tune up). Very nice room at a very nice price and a super excellent gourmet breakfast. (I drank too much of their good coffee and so didn't sleep as well as I might have.) So nice we stayed three nights and would have stayed longer if we hadn't had to head back to Boston. Because the room we had first was reserved we moved to another room after the 2nd night; both very nice rooms. Loved walking around town, great shops, good restaurants, and the best bookstore in the world!!

Room Tip: Simple, but beautifully appointed rooms. Some rooms have jacuzzi tubs, and some have claw foot tubs...

The Charleston House was a splendid base for staying in Woodstock , Vermont. The accommodation was very spacious and very well equipped and our room overlooking the car park had a verandah with a table and chairs on it, where we enjoyed the Fall sunshine. Dixi and Willa were charming and helpful hosts and the breakfasts were splendid and very filling, although a bit unsettling at first because all the elements arrive together on one big plate! Charleston House is perfectly situated within walking distance of attractions like Woodstock's covered bridge and the excellent Prince and the Pauper restaurant. Dixi was particularly helpful in advising on days out in Vermont and routes to take to reach attractions

We had booked a hotel in Killington for mid October but nothing going on there and so headed to Woodstock late in the day for a quick overnight before deciding what to do. Found the Charleston House late in the day after a very shabby reception at the Woodstock Inn and Resort. Dixie was very welcoming and offered us a choice of rooms all of which were very comfortable. We choose a four poster on the ground floor with a jacuzzi bath. Very comfortable. We ended up staying for four nights as we liked it so much. Great base to explore Vermont and New Hampshire. Breakfast will see you through the day. Thanks Willa and Dixie. If eating in Woodstock would recommend Mellaza (Caribean/Puerto Rican food) and Bentleys for more traditional fayre and entertainment. So glad we stumbled on this gem in Vermont.

We stayed at the Charleston House the last week of September. It was absolutely wonderful. Willa & Dixie are great hosts and could not be more accomodating. We felt right at home. The location is perfect and we walked everywhere while in Woodstock. Willa is a marvelous cook and the breakfasts kept us fufilled until evening.

We had a delightful two day stay with Willa & Dixie. They are exceptional hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed our many discussions with them. The breakfasts were amazing, the rooms ultra clean & comfortable (We were given an upgrade without having to ask) and the position of the Inn unrivalled. Would recommend to anyone who wishes to visit the charming little New England town of Woodstock.

We enjoyed our stay at the Charleston House this week. We were originally to stay at the Woodstock Inn, but they were closed due to hurricane damage from Irene. A quick search on our I-phone lead us to the Charleston House where Willa graciously helped us out. The original part of the inn dates to 1835. Rooms are in an extension of the main house. Room was very large and well appointed with a four poster bed. Large bath with jetted tub and thick towels. Cozy fireplace with winged back chairs on each side. Off street parking. Inn is a 5 minute walk to the center of Woodstock with plenty of shops and restaurants to choose from. Hosts Dixie and Willa provide a generous breakfast. We had great conversation with them and a lovely German couple. Would definitely recommend the Charleston House.

We always look to stay at B & Bs when we travel. Never have we had the pleasure of such sincerely delightful innkeepers as Dixi and Willa. The recent Hurricane Irene flooded through Vermont during our stay which caused all restaurants in the town to close. No challenge for our innkeepers. They merely went to their cupboards and whipped us up a wonderful pasta salad adorned with bits of this and that from frig and freezer. Add the wine, bread fresh cookies and ice cream and we all enjoyed a feast and great conversation for hours into the storm. Under such conditions you don't fake that you love what you are doing. Did I mention there was no running water during the storm? We barely noticed.
Excellent walkable location to all the attractions of quaint Woodstock. A truly wonderful get away.
