“The first and last visit - ever!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 March 2012

We visited some friends in La Herradura and wanted to take them to dinner the last evening we stayed with them. Since they were the "locals" we let them select the restaurant. It was a disaster! We were recomended the tropical salad, but it wasn't very good, and it got worse. The second dish was veal with vegetables, and we all wanted it well done. When we got it it was completely red and uneatable - and even when it had been sent back to the kitchen to fry some more, it was still quite red. I tried to eat it but as it also was very leathery, I just gave in. A very, very frustrating experience to treat friends to a meal like that. On top of that it was quite espensive, compared to the quality.

“price going north, quality gone south”

El Chambao de Joaquin –Almuneca

I have just enjoyed a very relaxing lunch with charming friends on the beach overlooking a calm sea, under a beautiful blue sky - in November!. Idyllic.
Of course, there is always a slight ‘fly in the ointment’. Before we ordered, our friends told us to check the price of the fish as they had been ‘ripped off’ before. This we did. My food was acceptable for the reasons above although my husband was somewhat bemused by sole topped with lashings of garlic, killing the flavour. However, a beach bar charging 18 euros per course for lunch! Wow. It makes many top restaurants in London look positively ‘Subway’, pricewise. I would go there for a drink, any day of the week but would leave it at that.
Southern Spain is a bit of a culinary desert but at least it was always cheap. These beach bars seem to have moved seamlessly up from 7/8 euros to 18 euros without stopping for breath. If only the food quality had moved in the same direction.
Never mind, as I say, the company was good, the day was beautiful etc. When the weather turns will we?

“Could be better if paella was fresh made”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 September 2011

We have been here twice in the past, always eating well. Their specialty is paella, that is cooked on a wood-fire in a big pan for lunch. This time we went there for dinner, asking if they had paella. The answer was yes, but at the end they served a paella that was clearly not fresh made, but clearly cooked at lunch time and warmed up for us.
The next day we went for lunch, and the fresh-made paella was very good.
The restaurant is good, they should avoid thinks like that. And also, if a customer asks a jar of sangria, do not serve for two people a jar with 2 (TWO!) liters of Sangria.

“Hugh paella cooked over a wood fire”

Worth a visit, its on the far end of the La Herradura sea front. Not too expensive if you have the paella.
