“A little oasis”

Stayed in El Apartmento last year returning to stay in Casa Pequana in July. Both propertys in this beautiful garden are totaly seperate and not overlooked. Interiors are delightful and quirky with all home comforts and more. Patrick the owner is always helpful but not intrusive and his resident dogs Ben and Gerry are a joy and very good with children. The area is quiet and peaceful. Even my 14 yr old son who rarely wants to go anywhere with us cant wait to go back ( I think the wifi, sat tv and the dogs swung it for him!!) And the most generous welcome pack ever!!!

“Wonderfully tranquil holiday”

We stayed at Cortijo Nuevo in early May and had a lovely relaxing week's holiday. You definitely need a car to get there, and it is in the middle of NOWHERE! The nearby town isn't anything to write home about, and you have to drive a little way before you get to nice beaches, but the house and apartments well made up for that, with Spanish charm.
El Apartmento, above the main house, is a perfect size - with a TV and random videos (for colder nights) and the garden is just wonderful. Lots of little winding paths, lemon trees, seating areas and places to explore. It wasn't very warm when we went, and there was a high wind, but the gorgeous garden surrounding the property protected us from it nicely.
The swimming pool is great for a dip out of the heat, but you can't do lengths in it!
Would highly reccommend this for a break away from the hustle and bustle - and for a holiday where you don't do much but sit around, read and relax!

“Wonderful place for a winter break”
Reviewed May 25, 2009 for a stay in January 2008

Visited Cortijo Nuevo for a month in the depth of a European winter and found this part of the Spanish coast to be warm and sunny most of the time. The surroundings are odd, to say the least, but the Cortijo is an oasis of tranquility and vegetation in which to hide away. Motril is not touristy - so much the better - but within minutes one can be among the holidamakers, or up in the hills, and just over the mountains are the Alpujarra and the fabulous city of Granada. Well worth a visit.

“An oasis”
Reviewed May 24, 2009 for a stay in February 2008

The area around Cortijo Nuevo is not promising--a grungy dried out river bed, a motorway under construction and lots of the plastic greenhouses that blight the Costa Tropical. But once you are inside the walls of the Cortijo you are in a different world--a magical garden full of plants and nooks and crannies for private lounging and simple but comfortable accommodation (we stayed in the apartment). Patrick isa wonderful host and will do anything he can to make your stay enjoyable.

Motril with its shops and lovely old quarter is close at hand and the Moorish hill town of Salobrena is a few miles down the road. The coast line is dotted with funky little towns and some nice beaches. Travel inland to the unmissable Grenada and Los Alpurras plus lots of side roads up into the hills.

Spanish cuisine is not the world's best but Motril and Salobrena have lots of decent restaurants. A good alternative though is to buy the fresh produce and excellent wine available locally and cook it back at the Cortijo.

This is not your usual cooky cutter accommodation but it works well and will provide a memorable experience.
