“Lovely little hotel, but not for disabled travellers”
Reviewed 9 October 2010

Struggling up a long flight of steep steps with heavy cases in pouring rain isn't the best introduction, but once inside, this is a delightful little hotel, with spotlessly clean rooms, very comfy beds and a warm welcome [with umbrellas to borrow!]. Although, annoyingly, the building immediately in front blocks the sea view, it's so close that this hardly matters. Our room had an excellent little balcony, which was very useful for sitting out of the rain and drying wet clothes! Friendly service [with English spoken] and reputedly an excellent breakfast, though we didn't try this. Worth more than the 2 stars it currently enjoys.

Stayed here for a few days after walking in the Picos de Europe for a week. It’s well worth a visit, the hotel has a great position near the harbour where all the restaurants are. Breakfast in the hotel was really good and the food served in the nearby restaurants in the evening was also great especially if you like sea food. The staff were really friendly and spoke good English, rooms were clean and well equipped, it could easily pass its self off as a 3X hotel. It’s not difficult to find as long as you look out for the signs to the hotel when you near the harbour. Look out for the steps to the hotel if you have a big suitcase and be prepared to park your car some way from the hotel after you have unloaded it in the free car park by the harbour.

We stayed here for two nights. The hotel is in the centre of the village, charming aspect overlooking other properties, but no sea view. In July the village was very crowded, but the hotel was lovely. Staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive. Our bedroom had a lovely balcony where we could sit.We were disappointed to find the restaurant permanently closed, but were recommended to restaurants in the village. The breakfast was excellent.Drawbacks;steps up to the hotel with cases, parking, although free, was about half a mile from the hotel. The Spaniards don't have their evening meal until after 9pm therefore don't expect to go to bed early and sleep. It is an extremely lively village in the early hours.

We were visiting Asutrias to see family, and a sibling had stayed at Casona del Pio before and recommended it. I will listen to that sibling again, as it was outstanding. Cudillero is a charming little village on the Bay of Biscay, and Casona sits in the back of the main restaurant and shopping area by the bay. It is both beautiful and offers great views. While the rooms are not fancy (more of what you would expect from an inn in a small village), they were exceptionally clean and neat. Rosario (who runs Casona) and her staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful (they even helped went with us to buy fresh seafood at the market for our family in Spain). The breakfast is served in a gorgeous dining room each morning, and th bacon and eggs were very welcome. Cudillero is a town worth going out of your way to see, and Cason is the place to stay there. We had a wonderful time.

This 2* hotel would beat most 3*s, be on par with 4* and could even nudge a few 5* hotels. Immaculately clean and comfortable rooms. Beautiful breakfast room with super breakfasts. Great location just off the main plaza and extremely friendly and helpful staff. We would stay here again in a flash. Cudillero is a small gem packed into the tight ravine with a nice port.

The hotel is lovely and perfectly placed, close to all the bars and restaurants and the staff are courteous and helpful, offering all kinds of information on the area. The only down side I think is the 71€ they charged us for a double room, in my opinion a bit steep for a hotel of this category, bearing in mind we stayed in a cute posada near San Vicente de la Barquera with fantastic sea views for half that price. Make sure you check your dates as there's a 20€ hike in the rate during 'temporada alta' and 'puentes'. The website doesn't give dates for these 'puentes', which are a kind of extended break coinciding with a public holiday.
While these are common knowledge to Spaniards, they are less so to foreign visitors.

This place is fantastic. Great service. The rooms are super comfortable and spacious. The restaurant is lovely - perfect breakfast and at night they serve fresh seafood that is delicious.

The only issue is that the place is a little hard the first time.
