This was such a pretty villa in Begur. It had beautiful views across the hills to the sea from all the bedrooms and the sitting room and most importantly from the pool and terrace. Comfortable beds and I really liked the selection of board games that we found in the cupboard, great fun with a glass (or three) of wine while soaking up the views in the evenings. It's not a luxury villa, but for what it offers, very good value. I was slightly surprised that it didn't have air conditioning or fans as it was a little hot for sleeping the first night or two but I bought a temporary fan for one room and the owner is now looking into having ceiling fans installed in all the bedrooms which I think will make this villa more comfortable. The pool is just slightly in shade by the early evening in late August which is a shame but there is a sun terrace up some steps which gets the sun a bit later.
Begur is a beautiful area. I think the beaches would be better not in high season as they are tiny coves and a little crowded and very difficult to park. (Also mostly shingle, not sand). But there are really nice walks round the cliffs between them. I couldn't do them as I had a broken leg, but my husband and daughter tried the one between Tamariu and Llafranc and took lovely photos.
But the places really worth visiting are the little medieval villages. Pals and Peratallada (both an easy drive) are enchanting and full of pretty shops, cafes and restaurants. Also, the beautiful village of Cadaques about an hour and a half north (where Dali hung out) is well worth the drive.
The botanical gardens in Palafruguell (again very near, South of Begur) have stunning views and are very relaxing.
We were also very pleased for the owner's tip of going to El Far (the lighthouse) for cocktails. We had a great evening here, with cocktails as promised, and superb views. There is also a Japanese restaurant here, Nomo, which looked great but which we didn't get to experience as you have to book well in advance so if you are going to Begur, book ahead. El Far is easy to find, drive from Begur towards Palafruguell, follow the signs to Llafranc and then before you get there, take the signs that simply say El Far.
We also found the owner Diane very helpful and friendly and easy to book with and she sent us lots of handy information prior to our stay. I would recommend this villa happily.
We loved staying in villa Casa Diana in Begur.
It had everything we wanted as a family, it was clean and comfortable and the children loved the pool and table tennis. The area was a great new find for us and a week was not longer enough to get around all the local medieval villages, sights of interest and beaches.
