I was walking the Camino de Santiago with a group and I was disappointed to see we would be staying for two nights in the city of Lugo. I had hoped for all nights to be in bucolic surroundings.
I couldn't have been more wrong. This hotel was a delight. Clean, convenient, sooo comforatable, with lovely balconies, and a great breakfast. I couldn't have asked for more. My room was huge, as was the bathroom, which allowed me to do a lot of laundry and dry it during my stay. I was able to pack/unpack in the luxury of a large room. The staff was friendly and helpful. I had a couple of quirky requests for information and the staff delivered beautifully.

The hotel is located on a pedestrian street so for the new arrivals it is difficult to lug your suitcases down several blocks in order to reach the entrance to the hotel. Reception was wonderful and efficient but the room was very much like staying in a college dormitory. It lacked style and definitely needed up dating.

Room tip: ask for a view or you will look out at a wall or fire escape

The hotel has comfortable, clean rooms, very friendly and courteous service. Quiet at night. The price is very reasonable and a good deal for the quality of the room. The town is picturesque surrounded by a Roman wall and some interesting old buildings and churches. Roman mosaics are one of the highlights of the sights, unfortunately closed to viewing when we were there.

The hotel is located in the center of a pedestrian zone and conveniently accessible to all the sights in town by walking. On arrival it is accessible to pilgrims on foot or by bicycle, but not by car. When we arrived by car in Lugo our GPS declared that we have arrived at our destination, the hotel. This was on a busy square with the hotel nowhere in sight. After some inquiries we were pointed down a long pedestrian block and told the hotel was at its end. I abandoned the car and hiked searching and finally finding the hotel to inquire how do we get our luggage there by car? Then came complicated directions to enter in another part of the pedestrian zone, blocked by a retractable steel column. This could be retracted if I talked to it and they released it. Then 4 blocks winding through the pedestrian zone to the hotel I dropped off luggage and wife and retraced the route through the block and a couple of blocks more to the commercial parking lot. Then hiked back. When we checked out the procedure was repeated in reverse. Not something I would like to face again arriving to Lugo after a long drive.

Room tip: If you are coming with a lot of luggage I would recommend a hotel accessible by car and parking..

I believe most of the rooms in this hotel have a good, open aspect. Mine didn't - it looked onto the fire escape. It was also impossible to leave the window open as anybody could have accessed the room from the fire escape. My room was 317, but certainly 316, 216, 217, 416, 417 have the same hideous aspect, and there may well be others. This is a four star hotel. These rooms should not be used. Beware! I requested a change and was told, bluntly, that the hotel was full.

Room tip: If "good" to you means a pleasant outlook, look at the room before booking, or demand a nice view

This is a decent place to stay, great value for quality and central old town location. Rooms are spacious and attractive. Spotlessly clean. Fabulous location. WiFi is a bit spotty and staff, maybe, a bit reserved (or just professional). We liked it a lot and thought it was a very good deal (did I mention location?). We would return.
