This cottage is located at one end of a quiet beach in an area geared for agriculture rather than tourism - the approach is through several miles of plastic covered greenhouses and the beach is only seen as the road sweeps down to the cottage and on to the beach (a hire car is essential - it's about a 90 minute drive from Alicante airport) . This cottage is at the front of a little compound containing a couple of other, newer rentals, and although unlike the others it doesn't have aircon (which could be a major inconvenience in the summer!) it does have a wonderful patio area with a gazebo to provide shade to the outside dining area. The beach has fairly coarse sand, and with few tourists, very little rubbish. The sea is a bit rough for children to swim unattended, but very pleasant for us big kids, a small drop on gravel and then shelving gently to get out beyond the breakers - and warm too (end of September) makes for a great sunrise swim - can get a bit rough by lunchtime as the heat gets up, but still good.
There is a small group of cafe/restaurants about a mile or so up the beach - very little English is spoken so take a good phrasebook, although the staff are very friendly and the Spanish food is excellent (far more locals than tourists here!).
Bad points - this is an old building on a beach under some trees, therefore there is wildlife!! Ants are the biggest problem, also the local family of stray cats - don't leave any food unattended inside or outside as those cats are quick and sneaky! (a cheap water pistol is the best defence). Also because of the rural setting, toilet paper needs to be binned and not flushed - we're used to rural Greece so this wasn't a problem. Other issues - there's no internet and no mobile 'phone signal unless you walk a little way down the beach (aah - peace at last!)
We had a minor issue with the hot water, and the owner went above and beyond to sort it out - very friendly and good communication (in English!) prior to and during our stay. Minor correction to the description - the sun sets behind the mountains so can't be seen from the terrace, but sunrises can and they are well worth getting up for!
In all, and for what's on offer, we consider this cottage to be a little overpriced - but the location is very appealing and we loved it so much that we changed our plans and stayed an additional week, and will definitely be staying here again in the future.
