I will start by saying sorry for writing this to Martin, I did tell him I wouldn't write a review.
Villa Alemenara is in the absolute perfect get away from it all location. Set in the middle of farmland with fabulous views over to Lorca Castle and the surrounding mountains. You must keep in mind that you are paying a low price for the villa and therefore do not expect luxury as what you will get is good value for money. I am not sure how Martin even breaks even with what he charges.
We stayed for the whole of May and unfortunately the weather turned chilly just as we arrived. Martin was otherwise occupied when we arrived so he had kindly left the keys for us. We spent the first couple of nights sat in outdoor coats until Martin kindly came up with a couple of heaters. On arrival we could only get the Travel Channel and Pick on the TV so no BBC news. Unfortunately the English Satelite guy Martin uses was on holiday in The UK and wouldn't be back for a couple of weeks so we remained without UK news for the whole month.
The villa is in an area that makes it a great base to explore from. There is a large shopping centre (that includes a large Carrafour supermarket) about 10 minutes away. There are a couple of bars and restaurants within a 10 minute drive.
My wife and I stayed here for the last two weeks in March. The villa is very private in the middle of the countryside with beautiful views of Lorca and the mountains in the distance. We did use the log burner in the evenings as it was a little chilly and made the villa very cosy and warm. Only one bathroom was prepared but that was not a problem as there were only the two of us I'm sure Martin (the owner) would prepare the outside second bathroom if it was needed. Lorca is nearby for shopping - the larger Mercadona was easily accessible. The town itself if very interesting with many places of historical interest. We visited Aguilas but enjoyed the nearby bays more than the main resort. One of our favourite trips was through the mountains to Mazarron. We visited the town, the resort and the bays nearby. The resort of Mazarron has many restaurants offering the menu of the day. 4 courses plus a bottle of wine costing 20 euros for two at Viggos which we recommend. We enjoyed our walks in the countryside around the villa and our walk into the village to buy our bread and the local Lorca wine. All the local people were very friendly always saying Hola when we passed. Martin was a pleasure to meet and extremely helpful before and during our visit. We would recommend a stay here without any reservations. It is on our list to come back to.
On arrival we were met by Martin who showed us round the villa and said if you need anything at all don’t hesitate to ask, Martin told us all about surrounding areas and places of interest, I hasten to add a vehicle is most necessary , if peace and quiet is what your seeking this spacious villa is for you,
So enjoyed our stay at Villa Almenara, lovely ownwers, so helpful. The area is so peaceful and Lorca such an interesting town, particularly enjoyed the castle, nearby coast and local market. Villa clean and well equipped...... planning to visit again next year. Only regret we weren’t there longer and it was a bit late in the season to use the pool. Thank you so much
When we arrived the owner was there to meet us. The villa was fresh & clean and ready for us. Everything we needed was provided, and we did think, for a rental property, that the kitchen was especially well equipped. The owner lives locally and provided great information on everything from bars, cafes, cake shops, best beaches, best viewing points, markets etc, etc. The pool was lovely - beautifully clean and provided a most welcome refreshing dip most days. It was our first visit to the area but certainly won't be our last. There was so much to see and do, both on the coast and inland. We're very pleased to have found this lovely area of Spain, which really does remain very Spanish. We will can't wait to return :)
lovely house (feels like home) in very quiet area. Pool is lovely, lots of very SPanish things to do around. Virtually no tourists. Will definitely try to come back again!
