“Still my favourite holiday cottage”
Reviewed August 14, 2018 for a stay in August 2018

I've lost count of the number of times we've visited Idris Bach now – seven? eight? – but we keep coming back, year after year, to spend a lovely fortnight. It's just the perfect holiday cottage. Clean, comfortable, well appointed, home from home, and we always appreciate there being milk, tea bags and some welsh cakes waiting for us, to get the holiday off to a good start. Not to mention a bottle of wine to celebrate the holiday. There's nothing nicer than sitting out on a warm summer's evening, enjoying the views – all the way down to Harlech castle – unless it's sitting out on a warm summer's morning, enjoying a cup of coffee and watching the birds start their day.

And Penrhyn is such a great base for exploring Snowdonia. Lots of nice places close at hand – Porthmadog, Barmouth, Harlech, Portmeirion, Criccieth, Caernarfon – and it's only an hour or so's drive to Anglesey. The more we visit the more we find to do, and we'll be back next year.

“Welsh Mountain Riviera”
Reviewed May 29, 2018 for a stay in May 2018

Well due to the weather it really felt like that sat out on the patio to eat all my meals. A small but comfortable cottage which was a real home from home. Everything I needed was there. Excellent bed and bedding, clean modern shower room, practical kitchen, and a living room with all mod cons including excellent wifi and phone signals.
Would happily return. Many thanks to Alex and his excellent directions as well as providing all the books and maps etc one could possibly need.

“A great week in Snowdonia”
Reviewed September 12, 2017 for a stay in August 2017

Had a very comfortable week stay in this charming cottage. After a day exploring Snowdonia, stunning beaches or Portmeirion it was great to be able to relax on the sofa or crash out in the king size bed. Great shower too.
Was great to find a bottle of wine and Welsh Cakes upon our arrival (after a long drive up).
Location is perfect as a base to travel around Snowdonia and just down the road from Portmeirion, which is a must see. The steam railway station is just up the road (request only).

“Fantastic find, super little cottage!”
Reviewed July 31, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Just got back from a great week at Idris Bach cottage.
Greeted by tea bags, a packet of Welsh cakes, milk in the fridge and a bottle of wine. What a lovely welcome! Also not forgetting the lovely little dragons in the lounge area! The kitchen was very well equipped so we ate in most evenings having bought something nice from the local butcher in the village.
There is so much to do in the area that we only scratched the surface. The great selection of maps and walk books were much appreciated - and used - to plan our outing each day.
As the cloud was rather low we did not venture up any mountains but did a lot of low level walking on the Lleyn Peninsula (gorgeous) and also a circular route from the cottage to Port Meirion (worth a visit). Definitely need to plan a return trip.

“Comfortable and well equipped home from home with added touches”
Reviewed July 21, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

A comfortable and well equipped home from home with lovely views across the estuary out the back. The added touches of a welcoming bottle of wine, welsh cakes, pint of milk in the fridge and tea bags were appreciated. The kettle in the bedroom is a good idea as it saves carrying full cups of hot drinks up two flights of steep stairs (well they are for my little legs) for that first coffee of the day.
Lovely base for Snowdonia and the walking books and maps in the house were well used. We also made good use of the steam railways from Porthmadog (station just a few yards from house too).

“An amazing cosy and comfortable cottage!”
Reviewed March 31, 2015 for a stay in March 2015

My husband and I stayed at Idris Bach for three nights at the end of March. We wanted somewhere cosy to relax and rest whilst also being able to be close to nearby walking spots. The owners communicated with us throughout our booking and sent very good directions/information about a week or so beforehand. On arrival, the cottage was beautifully presented with milk, wine, teabags and a few other bits and bobs - nice touches! We enjoyed two small ones, one around the forest and water in Coed y Brenin and one around a lake and countryside of Llyn Gwernan. We enjoyed a fantastic meal at the Y Ring - Brondanw Arms Hotel and one at a thai restaurant in Portmadog. We had everything we needed at the cottage and more - it was filled with just the right amount of stuff and we felt like we were at home. we also plan to return in the near future!

“Great Base”
Reviewed July 16, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Comfortable little end of terrace for two, with a high pressure shower and comfy bed, living room and kitchen over three levels. Good selection of maps, guides, CDs and DVDs, but bring a radio for the kitchen, if that is your habit. The views from the back of the cottage are extensive and interesting (the best from the top floor toilet..) The upper rear terrace is of course bang next to next door's, who constantly use their's, but there is the lower terrace for more privacy. You will benefit from the late afternoon / early evening sunlight as it tracks around the end of the terrace. The terrace cottage is very well located, if you like walks straight from your front door, as Penrhyn is threaded with little alleys or snickets which lead out to a beautiful hinterland of woods, farms, isolated cottages and fields. There is some moderate airborne road noise from the A497, due to location but it subsides at night. Unfortunately, the toll road (and railway) to Barmouth is currently closed for major reconstruction, (which excludes any pedestrian access)
