Owner description: Your Muir Woods Tour begins in your hotel lobby. You will be picked up at 7:30 AM, any day of the week or weekend, by private carrier. On the drive from your San Francisco hotel, take in spectacular Pacific Ocean & San Francisco Bay vistas. Your fully escorted walking tour will be on well maintained trails with easy grades, away from crowds, for three full hours. You will experience the rare morning serenity of an ancient redwood forest. The indiginous flora and fauna will unfold before you as you explore these peaceful woods in a way that isn't possible without Tom as your guide. See indigenous wildlife and enjoy conversation with Tom, a long standing Sierra Club leader. Absorb his rich knowledge of the flora & fauna of this unique ecosystem, the Redwoods themselves, Indian customs, park and local history and folklore. Tom is here to give you a glimpse into the life of the forest, not to steer you to the gift shop or hurry you along. Don't be shy, ask Tom any questions you like as you amble along the paths. He will astound you with his knowledge. Tom walks with you all the way through the park at your pace, pointing out every fascinating aspect and facet of the park and the magnificent Redwood trees that have survived here for hundreds of years. The walking tour covers 2 to 4 miles inside the Muir Woods forest, depending on your pace. This a very small group tour and Tom even provides drinking water, snacks and fruit juice. You and your party will be dropped off at the Sausalito Ferry, by private carrier, at the conclusion of your tour. Along the way you will see rolling hills, the town of Sausalito and more breathtaking San Francisco Bay vistas. The all inclusive fee of $75.00 also covers your Golden Gate Bridge Tolls and Park admission fees. There are no hidden extras! It really doesn't get better than this!

I have traveled twice before to Muir Woods by myself, it was good. The third time was the best with Tom on his Muir Woods tour!!! Don't miss this great opportunity to get to the park early, enjoy an awesome hike and return to Sausalito! We enjoyed the entire time with Tom, from hotel pick up to hiking and Tom sharing his knowledge about the woods. All the way to being dropped off at the ferry terminal in Sausalito, Tom took great care of us. My daughters (age 16 & 13) enjoyed it as well and wanted to go back. Thank you, Tom, for sharing your expertise and giving us a special perspective of Muir Woods. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

Muir Woods offers a hiking experience for hikers of all ages and experience levels. Both my kids (age 8 and 11) had a great time seeing the woods. We arrived at 830am and the temperature was about 65/ ideal for a hike. I recommend you bring your water and are dressed in active wear. For not serious hikers you can take more challenging hikes.

One thing to note, we left around 11am and the traffic trying to get to this destination was a mess (bumper to bumper for miles) Parking was a non issue for us since we arrived early but both lots were full when we left.

The walk through the Redwoods was breath-taking! Well worth the winding road to get there. Parking was a hassle, we had to drive through the lots three or four times. We arrived around noon and finally someone left and we took their spot. This was a bit aggravating but once we stepped into the forest we agrees it was well worth the frustration!

If you want to see Muir Wood,s minus the driving and parking nightmares associated with it, you can opt for a tour. Many large commercial tour operators offer trips to Muir Woods. They pick you up from a designated meeting point and then (most) limit you to about 90 minutes actually walking in Muir Woods. Tom Martell offers a tour where he takes very small groups to Muir Woods. He picks you up at your hotel early in the morning. You drive across the Golden Gate arriving at Muir Woods when it is still quiet. On the way Tom will give an overview of the preserve and the trees themselves. If it is raining, as it was on the day we went, he has umbrellas. If you are hungry he has some snacks. You get a full 2 hours to walk and, if time permits, he may take you to nearby Muir Beach. He drops you in Sausalito where you can return to San Francisco (either to the Ferry Building or Fisherman's Wharf). Such a nice, stress-free way to experience the magic of the Muir redwoods.

This place is worth the visit. Beautiful and breath taking. Trees that are giants and reach to the sky. A beautiful creek runs between the two trails and gives a solid no of tranquility. The trees made me feel so small and I gained such a respect for that forest.
