We just spent a week at Calabogie Lodge Resort.....a wonderful spot for a getaway.
Pros: Amazing view from our unit. Looks like most units overlook the bay. It snowed and was picture perfect. Resort has some great amenities starting with an IR Sauna, Hot tub and a swimming pool. Upstairs check out the fully equipped work out room and then the games room/library. Even an art gallery and some amazing classes during the afternoons and evenings.
You are also about 30 minutes from Renfrew for major shopping stores and some great little restaurants, as well as some of the chains. Walmart was a great stop for groceries and other things we needed. We stopped at Rocky Mountain House and were not disappointed with the schnitzel options....yum. Good serving portions as well for the money.
If you're into tourist type options check out Ottawa. Hubby's did the War Museum....a great way to spend the afternoon. In fact, they told us to continue shopping because they were getting a personal tour by a great volunteer that walked them around some of the exhibits. They spent 5 hours at that museum. We also managed to hit Costco, Lee Valley, Value Village, Montreal bagel store and get gas in that 5 hours, so we were definitely shopped out by end of the day. Ready for a nice dinner at Jack Astors in Kanata (far west of Ottawa). Lots of restaurants to choose from just North of the Terry Fox Exit off of Hwy 417.
Also available is lots of skiing at Calabogie Peaks. Resort also supplies snow shoes for those that are adventurous.
Cons: The resort does provide skating areas for their guests, but not great skating. For family and friends that had not skated recently it was way too bumpy to try staying upright for any length of time. Units were really nice but could certainly use a clean-up, fix-up and some updating on appliances for sure. Everything worked well, but definitely dated. Units have big bedrooms for our 2 bedroom but the sitting area is a little cramped for 4 people. We arranged some furniture to make it work better when watching TV.
Option for going again: Definitely!! Enjoyed our stay and discovered new things in the area.
