As th subject suggests. After driving 1400 kms in 2 days t go t Dads funeral n then driving back after 300 kms around Auckland n doing another 1400 hm , decided to go to Otira for coffee n look around at th old Otira stage coach pub n museum , well worth th effort. Friendly staff n good tucker. Excellent place for a break from driving.

We stayed here for one night during our driving trip of New Zealand. We had an ensuite room which was very quaint but clean and functional. The food was delicious and the staff friendly and helpful. There are a lot of historical items in the hotel and on the property. It was quiet and we had a wonderful sleep!

We stopped for coffee and a bite to eat en route through Arthur's Pass. This place is definitely a one-off! It is small, almost tiny, crowded (well there were about ten people, but I said it is small!), and stuffed full of oddities. It's like your eccentric uncle's home! The people at the servers were friendly and helpful, and to our amazement we had the best coffee of our month-long trip, and the best cheese scone ever! If you are passing, it is well worth calling in.

We stumbled upon this place on a wet New Zealand morning as we were in desperate need of a latte and bathroom. We were so glad we did. This historic stagecoach motel is a must do for anyone travelling on Arthur's Pass. Ride a penny farthing, scratch Gracie the African Parrot or just admire the wierd collection of oddities the owner has accumulated. Enjoy!
