The visitor center, although currently under renovation and housed next door in portables, is still well worth a visit. The ranger we spoke with was exceptionally knowledgeable and very friendly. He gave us maps and knew the area very well. Several areas were closed due to snow, but he had other suggestions for us. We were brand new to the area and he was very patient with our silly questions! This will be our first stop next year when we return so that we are up on all the latest conditions in the area.

We basically stopped in to get a stamp for our National Park Passport but the two ladies at the desk were super sweet to my two enthusiastic grandkids. Always appreciate someone in their capacity being kind, understanding and helpful. Clean bathroom too.

Be aware - The Park is remodeling the visitors headquarters over the winter. The visitors center is temporarily housed in some prefab buildings about 1/2 mile NW of their usual building.

We loved the hiking out of Hurricane ridge visitor center. They have short walks, or long ones. The views of the Olympic mountains are spectacular. And there are deer everywhere . To hike this area, it's not far out of the city of Port Angeles, but best to go in July-September. It's a drive high up, so go on a nice day. Enjoy

Got fab magnet and birthday cards, and had a good look at the books and the maps on the wall of the area.
