“Great upscale hotel”
Reviewed 20 May 2012 via mobile

I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. The personnel at check-in and valet were very nice and informative. The hotel and rooms are historic with a modern flair.

I was sent here for work. The conference rooms were nice. The service and food were good.

Was here last week. Wasn't overly impressed. My Job put me up here for business and then got to stay on for a few days for pleasure. I thought the Door Men were great and the front desk staff was good. I thought the room was dark and not warm. I wasn't impressed with having to always fill out my name and room number when I wanted to get on the internet. So many hotels these days have such easy steps to get on the internet. Thought the restaurant staff wasn't very friendly and didn't offer the same type of service the Front of house at the hotel staff offered.

Good Morning,

Thanks so much for your honest feedback regarding your recent stay. I agree, consistancy in service is a MUST and we fell short in the restaurant. We hope we will get the chance in the future to welcome you back. Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

Warm Regards,

I chose this hotel based on their pet policy. Much to our surprise, ours was not merely "accepted"; she was welcomed. The dog bed was a too petite for a 78 pound golden (ok, she's on a diet.) But, she liked the treats (hey, it's vacation time.) We were upgraded to a king room and it was comfortable, as was the bed. We enjoyed a glass of wine at the Manager's Social, and later a drink in The Vault. I had already made a dinner reservation elsewhere, but we had breakfast at the Bambera before departing. Delicious granola, blueberries, and yogurt. Spouse said the Eggs Benedict were excellent. All three of us enjoyed our stay so much, we'll be stopping back on the return leg of our trip and will try the Bambera for dinner. Excellent value (weekend rate) and they put the "friendly" with the "pet.".

I'm a frequent traveler to Salt Lake City and this was my first stay at the Hotel Monaco. I will definitely be going back. There is a very nice lobby with lots of couches and chairs, free papers in the morning (even on Sundays!) along with coffee and tea and a very nice touch was the free wine and massage in the late afternoons. The room I stayed in was a corner room with two queen beds and while it wasn't huge, it was a comfortable size with a very large bathroom and very quiet. Large in room movie selection. The location is very convenient -- walking distance to many restaurants (if you choose not to dine in the top of the line restaurant in the hotel) as well as to Temple Square and the new City Creek shopping mall. Room service was speedy and polite as were the parking valets.

I missed having a coffee maker in my room and I thought the lighting for reading in bed could be better. One lamp for two queen beds seems to be the norm in most rooms, but doesn't really work. Other than that, it was a pleasure.

I stay in the Monaco for one night in a business trip. The hotel I had a very good impression, quiet and comfortable rooms, modern and a good restaurant. The staff was particularly friendly.

We had business in Salt Lake City and wanted to be in the downtown area. We went right to TripAdvisor to find a hotel and much to our pleasure, we found the Monaco, a Kimpton Hotel. Hotels in this chain have always given us the biggest bang for the buck. With competitive room rates, the Monaco had all the amenities we appreciate: pleasant room, comfortable lobby, friendly, helpful staff, and good location. But the Unique Selling Point is this: you can enjoy the little extras without having to pay extra!

We had already joined the Kimpton Club. At the Monaco, members get free Wi-Fi and a mini-bar credit. Arriving in our room, we found a complimentary bottle of wine. With those perks, we were ahead. One of the nicest features was the hotel's cocktail hour featuring a free wine bar. Between 5:00 and 6:00, guests gather in the lobby for conversation and red or white wine. In most hotels, you never talk to anyone, but lobby’s warmth and hospitality was conducive to having lively conversations with other guests.

We belong to other hotel frequent user clubs, but for the most part, all they give is one free bottle of water. But the Monaco made us feel like it was grateful that we had chosen them as opposed to other hotels in the area. In this economy when hotels struggle to keep their occupancy rates high, the Monaco goes the extra mile. Hotel guests often feel like they’re being nickeled- and-dimed to death, but this hotel offers quality and value. For this reason, we had high expectations – we weren’t disappointed at all.
