Take the time to walk ride or drive this part of the city. Salt Lake has an amazing number of parks and open spaces that are popular among residents and this is one of them

Just a mile from Salt Lake City is a most delightful, hidden gem of a canyon! It is a well maintained road for hiking, biking, and driving (although in the summer you can only bike up on odd days and drive up on even days). You can rent the bikes anywhere in the city and ride them partway up the canyon.

City Creek starts near the capitol and beautifies a green belt that leads to the Bonneville Shoreline trail where things get a little more natural - and vertical. Along the way, there are places to look back towards town in astonishment at how different it is from where you stand. I must have taken 100 pictures - in part to rest along the way but it was really compelling scenery. I wound up making a loop that put me at the top of the Avenues rather than an out-and-back. It was all good.

So close to the middle of the city. It is reminiscent of other large city parks, only this one is a real canyon with a real stream.

Moderately challenging hike through the canyon. Trail was washed out in some places but we were able to help each other through.
