This is one of my favorite places in Utah. It's a short drive from SLC, is easily accessible, and has something for everyone: day hikes; backpacking trails; short, flat trails even kids can do; fishing; snowsports in the winter.

The Wasatch mountains boarder the east side of Salt Lake City. The little Cottonwood canyon is easily accessible. Breathe taking scenery. Two ski resorts. Many hiking trails to be hiked. Great day for a family picnic at Silver Lake at the end of the canyon.

I've hiked many trails up Big Cottonwood Canyon. One of my favorites is Donut Falls. It is a family friendly hike where a watefall flows into a cave at the end. It is even more spectacular in the winter when the waterfall freezes. It is a little more treacherous with ice and snow to contend with at the end but well worth it if you go prepared with proper gear. Young families often go sledding by the parking lot. Hiking and skiing are great! Something for everyone to enjoy! Year round fun and beauty!

A little chilly at first, but a beautiful day to wander through the canyon. No oppressive heat like you often find in the summer - snow covered peaks, quiet and relaxing.

Close enough and wonderful scenery. The drive is quite enjoyable and the hiking trails are wonderful.

Each time of the year brings a different beauty, but certainly fall is my favorite. Summer is a good choice too when temperature there is cooler than in the city.
