“Good but not great”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 May 2012

The Hawthorn Suites Albuquerque is conveniently located near the airport. This is a pleasant facility, with friendly staff, and comfortable beds...though I found the pillows uncomfortable, since they were too big and too soft... you're mileage may vary if you prefer that type of pillow.

Overall the hotel is showing it's age. We had 2 units, 1 double queen, 1 king, both air conditioners had their issues... just from age. Ours was very difficult to adjust to a comfortable temperature... either too warm or too cold. The other room's air conditioner had some broken controls and didn't blow on high... leaving the room too warm for the duration of our visit (Just a couple of weeks ago... imagine if this had been summer!!)

The shower is ok, though the control, being old, was difficult to turn. The toilet required holding the handle down to flush completely... again, a sign of age.

The breakfast was good: eggs/waffles/sausage and biscuits, potato tots, assortment of cereals, fruit, breads.

I found coffee, apart from Starbucks, universally horrible in New Mexico and this hotel's was no different :) I don't think anyone stocks good quality, ground arabica bean coffee out there... but again, this is not specific to this hotel... just be prepared!

Our rooms were on the third floor and the single hotel elevator was fairly slow, so wait times tended to be long in the mornings. The stairways were not near the centrally located elevator, but we did resort to using them from time to time. You might want to stay on the 1st or 2nd floor if you are as impatient as I am!

The hotel and rooms were kept clean, even being nearly full due to the Annual "Pow Wow", aka Gathering of Nations, being held the weekend we were there.

For the price, this hotel was a good value. However, I did not feel this was quite a 3 star hotel, although perhaps those ratings are relative to the city? Perhaps 2-2 1/2 would be more appropriate.

We stayed here for 1 night and it was one of the better hotel experiences we have had. When we arrived we were checked in by Juanita she was very friendly and professional. When we got to our room it was clean and comfortable we had no complaints. When we left to head out to dinner we were asked by Juanita and I believe it was the Manager how our room was when we exited through the lobby, which is something I have never had happen at any other hotel I have stayed at before, usually the front desk staff keep their heads down and pretend to not see you after they have checked you in so having someone acknowledge you when walking out was a new experience. The bed was very comfy and we did not hear any outside noise during the night till a car alarm went off, not the hotels fault, it was turned off quickly and we slept without interruption the rest of the night. We did not try the free breakfast, we’re not breakfast people, but I'm sure it would have been good enough for us. Thanks for a pleasant stay.

I got stuck in Albuquerque due to a delayed flight and this was where the airline had a deal. Usually the hotels that airlines use for things like this are pretty gross, but this was one really nice. Extremely comfortable beds, super clean room, and it was quiet. I saw some complaints on TA about the hot breakfast but when a place offers breakfast for free you really can't have that high of expectations. The eggs, tator tots, biscuits & gravy were hot and adequate. Sure, it isn't fancy, but it's free! I'll take it :)
Front desk service was friendly and prompt even though she was busy with other displaced passengers. Thank you Hawthorn for a pleasant stay!

Room Tip: Top floor rooms are quieter apparently. There is a bar on the first floor so I'd avoid that floo...

I stayed at this hotel for a total of 6 nights. I had to go to housekeeping and the front desk because housekeeping never put wash cloths in our room. I had to find a housekeeper every day for wash cloths. I tried the front desk and was told that they did not have any and that I would have to wait until their maintenance person returned. It was extremely difficult to communicate with the housekeeping staff since some of them did not speak english.

The keys cards only worked sometimes-had them redone by the front desk twice.

I was really let down by the breakfast. It consists of eggs, tater tots, and biscuits and gravy, mini muffins, plain oatmeal, cereal, apples and oranges. There was no meat of any kind, no yogurt and no bananas. This one is the kicker-the apple juice and the orange juice were watered down.
I have traveled quite a bit and never stayed at a place where they water down the juice.

There is a sitting area near the front desk and one of the seats was extremely worn out with a hole in it.

I can't believe the Wyndham brand is associated with this hotel.

We were stuck in ABQ after the airport closed due to storms. I quickly booked on another website and got some amazing prices. I booked a total of 5 rooms, and the front desk was VERY quick to check us all in. The shuttle service was great as we wanted to leave the craziness of the airport as quickly as possible. I have stayed at many Hawthorns before, and I will say this one rates a bit on the lower end. The old signage from the branding change over was still sitting in the lawn, making it look a bit run down. Also the eye sore of the abandoned hotel behind it, could give one a feeling the back area is not a place you would want to park your car. Inside the hotel lobby there were many burned out light bulbs but nothing that was major. We had one guest stay in a room closest to the pool, and I would highly recommend they cover the pool as garbage was floating in the pool, not making a good impression. I was a bit early for breakfast in the AM, but was able to grab a muffin that had seen its better days, but I honestly do not expect much from hotel breakfast. Overall the price was right, but I think the standards of Wyndham Properties could be upheld a bit more.

Room Tip: Something that overlooks the front, and not the closed hotel that sits in back of the property.

We had a nice stay here on our way home from Vegas. Room was clean, and the staff was very friendly. We had some problems with our keys, but they replaced them quickly. The restaurant nearby had great pizza, and the complimentary hot breakfast was delicious. Would stay here again. Good value!!!

My wife and I just spent 3 nights there, and were very pleased with the accommodations and service. Our primary motive in booking this motel was its proximity to The Pit, which was hosting the NCAA Men's basketball tournament. Not only is in easy walking distance from The Pit, you're only a 5-10 minute drive from anywhere you'll want to go, be it Old Town, Nob Hill or the main UNM campus. A complimentary shuttle is available if you are without a vehicle or just don't feel like driving. We slept extremely well on the comfortable beds and pillows. We normally don't stay in establishments with less than four stars, and we highly recommend this establishment for offering many free amenities including parking, internet and breakfast at very reasonable rates. I don't want to mislead you into thinking the breakfast is anything special, but if breakfast is important to you, grab some OJ and coffee on your way out the door to the IHOP just up the street or one of the many other spots a few minutes away. The place is still a bargain, if they wouldn't have the breakfast.
