“Don't Miss It!”
Reviewed 26 November 2012

A great place to learn about Hawaii's history. The displays, signage and walking tour are pretty good! The tide pools are a great place to look for turtles and all kinds of little critters of the sea! I would suggest visiting early in the morning, as this stretch of coastline tends to cloud over in the afternoon. The mornings are almost always clear and sunny (at least during our month-long stay), but by the afternoon, the clouds roll in and the result is that your photos just don't do the Park justice...

“Must do, great views and info”
Reviewed 24 November 2012

Very knowledgeable, nice, funny ranger leading the free tour so please do take advantage and learn more about Hawaiian culture and history. And pay attention because he will ask you to repeat the parks name which is no easy task :)

“A Beautiful and Spiritual Place”
Reviewed 23 November 2012

A beautiful and spiritual place surrounded by lava fields! A wonderful place for a walk in the early morning or late afternoon when the sun is not straight above your head. Anyway, have a hat or umbrella with you will help to enjoy this place. We were here for about an hour and a half exploring the area, ancient ruins and Hawaiian history. There were few people with us so basically we had the whole park to ourselves.

It's hard to imagine that Hawaiian royalty had this amazing place just to themselves for several centuries.

“My favourite place and the window of history”
Reviewed 22 November 2012

I like this place from the first moment I walked in. Nice and quiet place full of history. Good place to hang out and relax if you want to escape the tourist rush of Volcano national park. Around 75 minutes from Volcano village.

There is self-guided tour around the site, just follow the map given at the visitor center. There is picnic area just next to the park. The place is good for snorkeling and maybe you will be lucky to see the turtles too.

This place is definitely a must-see for everyone visiting Great island to learn about Hawaiian's culture and history.

“Great island history lesson”
Reviewed 21 November 2012

It doesn't take long to get there or walk through. Leave for the Volcano an hour early and visit a National Park that takes you. Back in Hawaiian time and see and experience how the first Hawaiians lived and worshiped.
Entrance fee is when they have a anger staffing the shack.
