We recently traveled to Estes Park with Grandparents, 3 kids under 6 and 3 teenagers. As the teenagers were on a horseback ride, we needed something fun for the little kids. We went to Estes Ark as an 'only option' since arcades and other items were closed due to winter. LUCKY US! The new owners (husband/wife team) greeted us as the kids walked over the plank. The kids started by walking the 2 levels looking/touching/feeling all the different kinds of stuffed animals. Since it's an open concept type of look- we could see them at all times. When we were ready to try out the slot cars in the basement, the owner walked down with us and got the computers all set up. You can tell they enjoy the joy of little kids. Our kids did it for 5mins, took a break then 5mins again. After that was complete, we did the mining on the deck. I was shocked this was their favorite part. You pick a bag of sand from inside the store starting at $8. Depending on the size of the bag, depends on the price and the contents/size of rocks in the bag! You then take the bag outside, put it in a metal grate---dip it into the water basin to get the rocks real clean. They give you a guide and assist the kids matching the rocks to the card and identifying what they are. We left and went home happy. Daddy got back from horseback riding and they convinced him HE MUST SEE IT and off they went....so our kids upgraded to the larger bags for mining (it's true- rocks/interest level larger...but smaller bags fun too) & more slot cars. Hey- it's vacation, right?
