Those remembering Home Port Inn dinners may be disappointed to learn its dining room now operates for breakfast only, but it is an appealing Bed and Breakfast Inn. Dave and Suzanna are friendly and helpful. My wife and I stayed there two nights in August as part of our 10-day touring trip in Maine. The weather changed unexpectedly our first night there to rainy, and we had left our rain gear in our car. As we prepared to go out the next morning, we were looking out the front door and came up with the idea I should go back to our room and get a bath towel to put over my head and upper body to go get our jackets and umbrella. Suzanna overheard, interrupted, and volunteered Dave's rain parka on a hook by the front door and urged me to wear it to go to our car. That certainly made us feel as if we were family.
The living room is spacious and inviting. That still-rainy evening we came in to find a fire going in the fireplace, very homey. The Inn has lovely features such as a bay window in the living room, and a garden terrace outside the dining room connected by glass doors. Our room had a king-size bed, and was very comfortable. You must pre-select your breakfast time (7:30, 8 or 8:30 AM) the prior evening, and choose whether you'd like Dave's homemade granola as the main item, or Suzanna's hot entree, that changes from day to day. The breakfast buffet includes choice of juice, fresh fruit, yogurt, muffins, and toast. There is no off-street parking, but the traffic level on Main street is quite low, and usually one will be able to park within a few car lengths of the front door on one side of the road or t'other.
We attended an outstanding free piano concert our second evening, in the church across the street, part of the ongoing Summerkeys music festival in Lubec. It is a four-blocks walk down the hill to Water Street, where most of the restaurants and businesses are.
