This was a great and inexpensive lunch option in downtown Tucson. Unfortunately, it has been closed and dark for three weeks and is apparently closed. There is no sign on the door -- but it's obviously out of business.

I eat here once a month. Or more if I can't resist temptation any longer. The house special fried rice might be the best in town. An $8.18 ticket to food heaven.

Rice House China Thai is way innocuous, from a quick glance. It's set up kind of like a Panda Express, you get a tray, order a combo and a drink, sit down with your plastic utensils in a very plain dining hall and eat it. But that's where the wow kicks in.
Unlike Panda, Rice House only fills those steaming trays for the lunch rush, then the food is made to order, no matter what you order. It's all good standard fair, that is until you try the Thai and even the sushi.
That's when you realize that the money the owner (and cook) saves on ambiance, they plug right back into the eats. Rice House Thai puts another competetor to absolute shame with their fresh, delicious, HOT Thai dishes, and at a FRACTION of the price. Reread that if you think it's a typo, I assure you it's true. The Pad See Ew is so absolutely devine it might as well have wings and a halo.
But it's the sushi that is impressive even in its simplicity. Made to order and obviously fresh, there's not overly fancy garnishes to hike up the price. You get miso soup, a spring roll, and wasabi with it for such a reasonable price, you're not sure they didn't mess that up on the menu.
So what if it's plain. You can taste what matters on your plate.

Went here for dinner. Parking a little difficult due to location on Congress. Ordered Thai food . Had massaman curry chicken & tom ka gai soup large. Both were spot on the flavor but the sauces seemed a little thin. These are coconut flavored with peanut sauce. Waiter was attentive. Atmosphere that of a wide open mess hall. I would go back again for after theater dinner.
