Owner description: This 750-foot tower built for the 1968 HemisFair has unbeatable panoramic views, especially if you're in the tower's revolving restaurant.
Reviewed May 19, 2018 via mobile

The walk-way area leading to the Tower is surrounded by an aesthetically impressive succession of cascading fountains that will diminish any anxiety that you may have about heights, such as riding up in an elevator to the top @ 750-feet tall! Take a few minutes to sit, watch, & listen to the gentle sounds of these fountains, & it will often relax the lingering scary fantasies that you may typically experience when going to “high-up” attractions. The Tower is located in “HemisFair Park,” & was built in 1966 as a symbolic theme of the venue of the 1968 official World’s Fair, which celebrated “The Confluence of Civilizations in the Americas.” The 1968 World’s Fair showcased the many nations that settled the region, & also coincided with the 250th anniversary of the founding of San Antonio in 1718! Following the conclusion of the Fair, the tower continued to be an attraction that not only provided a breathtaking view of San Antonio but also a revolving full-service restaurant & bar (Charter House) for casual daily activities, such as weekday “happy hour,” with delicious appetizers & comfortable seating. The restaurant also serves an outstanding menu of classic dishes available after the usual rush of happy hour visitors. The Observation Deck is the floor immediately above the Charter House, & if you show your receipt for restaurant expenses, the usual charge for the ride to the top is free.
In 1968, the city expanded the River Walk about one-quarter of a mile in order to link the park to the other attractions of the River Walk experience for visitors. Public shuttle service is available from the Tower & Park to the more active areas of the River Walk. Ask the concierge @ the Tower entrance regarding current available services. On the whole, this attraction is definitely worth a visit if you are touring San Antonio: great panoramic view of the city, outstanding food & drink, & well-trained, friendly service staff across all settings!

Came here to get a view of San Antonio. We paid our money, and took the elevator ride up to the observation deck. Elevator ride was nice, and the tower does give a great view of the city. The problem is that as you look out into the distance, you really have no idea what you are looking at, and we ended up pulling out phones to try and get a feel for directions and what was out there. I think they could have installed a few displays highlighting what you were looking at in the distance. Still, a nice view and no regrets, but could have been better.

Not sure how to rate our visit to the Tower of the Americas. It was nice going to the top (750 stories high); however, there wasn't much there once you reach the top unless you're really interested in seeing San Antonio from the height. I guess I was looking for something similar to Willis Tower (Sears Tower) located in Chicago. I wasn't impressed, but at least I can say I was there. This is one place a person would have to judge for themselves.

We found it to be clean and organized without any overcrowding. From the top you great a great birds eye view of all the surroundings with informative maps that let you know the points of interest below.

They also have walls about Texas history with audio that you can activate while looking at the scenery. And a 4D movie theater that shows 10 minute shows, restrooms, cafe, as well as a revolving dining room and bar. Set amid the old Hemisfair fair grounds.
